↪ I now understand why there is always issues between them and the people in the host community. It seems our rulers have become too greedy and are over billing them. This may be one of the reasons why they are transferring aggression on the people in the community.
Overbillng for what exactly? How many of the communities in Nigeria have land(fenced) and designated for open grazing that traditional rulers should be billing herders for? People in local communities should begin now investigating this claim abeg! This problem may have corruption at its roots that people are not even aware of. undecided

This is why I never solely direct my anger at fulani. The problem igbos have is more than fulani, and is a good thing that most of us know that.

I believe the fulani guy. It is another reason that why I don't like the idea of traditional rulers. For the igbos, I think the traditional rulers went away with European slavery era. The real traditional rulers were either kpaied and family sent abroad to slavery, or everyone in their family wiped out. Those not affected, worked with the colonizers in destroying their people, until 1960.

Left for me, I will reduce traditional rulers to caretakers of artifacts. They are not the gov anymore, and shouldn't be treated as such. Too many cooks in the kitchen. Moreover, we don't know who was the original ones anymore, because the original kings families were sent to slavery. So for igbos, the jamaicans, island people, Brazilians, African Americans, and others, have our real kings and queens. Even some igbos sold to other African countries. So it is complicated.

The fulanis that paid should defend themselves when the east and other igbo areas are not affected. I just don't like the islamics tribalist in the security forces, because those ones are out for the igbos.

May God continue to bless the great igbo tribe.

Better go and investigate your traditional leaders! You expect them to come tell you the truth just like that? undecided

I have known this for several years now. That's why none of those bastards we call traditional rulers can come out and challenge the fulani. They have sold their people out.

The fulani renew this payment every year.
The same way they sold Africans as slave for alcohol and mirrors. I will end these useless traditional chief, they offer nothing to the community.

Those herders can't just come all away from North and settle anywhere.

Funnily, reasonable southerners have cows with those herders .
They do come and settle on people's land without any permission. I know of a recent case where they were ejected from kogi and they just packed themselves to kwara and stopped at forest in Kwara where they decided to camp before the oba of the town rejected them and evict them.

That makes no sense! Does the land not have an owner? Is the owner of the land made aware beforehand of the fact that his land would be used for such a purpose by the traditional ruler? Why should a traditional leader collect any amount from them without first designating a fenced off area in his community where this rent collected is to apply? undecided
They are communal lands. And the lands are not forcefully taken from the owners, they are paid in cash or in cows.
When the herdsmen told you that they own the lands they were not lying. That is why you didnt see any traditional ruler come out to challenge them.
The problem is the fulani man ia uneducated and he didnt know he would need documents, he felt a gentle mans agreement was good enough…
Many Nigerians dont understand what is really happening

We are saying the same thing. I see no reason why they are even billing them. It's greed.

We are saying the same thing. I see no reason why they are even billing them. It's greed. This may also be one of the reasons why cow meat is very expensive. The herders will definitely factor the total cost they paid into the price of their cow.

Renting a land does not make you the owner of the land. However, out leaders are too greedy

So is that the reason you have to take your cows into people farms and allow your cows to eat food crops and destroy the farms which farmers suffered to cultivate the land and plant and harvest..if you want to feed your cows they are lot of forests and bushes take your cows to and you can use to feed your cows there...but not on people farms..that is the problem people and nigerians have with you fulani herdsmens

If indeed a payment is being made by the Fulanis to traditional leaders, what is the payment for? For them to freely roam the community and trespass on private properties within the local? undecided

.. even if they paid money to traditional rulers...they are areas with grasses they can take their cows to feed without entering people farms or farm land...the area and land is big enough for everybody to utilize without trespassing into another person territory or farm land

That is too arbitrary! You assume their cows feed better on grass and so they should stick to areas where there is grass. Am I wrong? undecided

Igbos should never fall for this by going after your traditional leaders. Sack them out of your land; they should go to whomever they paid money to for a refund; they're not welcome to our lands and territory.
Traditional lenders in Igboland don't have such rights against the people

That's it but it will fail in the South East because our leaders don't have rights to do such thing
