dallyemmy:that is not what I asked you. since you have checked the exchange rate, then you should have no issues answering the questions. Is this the first time that the naira is being devalued? If devaluation is the reason for fuel being smuggled to neighbouring countries, how come the government has always said the reason for smuggling is because the price is low and needs to be increased? If devaluation is the problem, how does government deliberately devalue the naira knowing the consequences it will have in terms of smuggling? |

We should stop deceiving ourselves with this story of smuggled fuel. I've told people before and I'm glad Punch corroborated it, the fuel moving through the borders is negligible. To claim Niger and Benin Republic are feeding fat on cheap fuel from Nigeria is a big fat lie. No tanker can move fuel across the border. What is mostly used are cars and in foot and even those go in very small numbers because of the risk involved. Besides that, if you combine the number of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles in the three main countries bordering Nigeria together, it is not up to half of the vehicles in Nigeria. That's besides the fact that more Nigerians use generators than those who have cars. So this excuse of smuggled fuel causing scarcity is bollocks on my opinion |

nairalanda1:So what happens if naira gains and cost of petrol falls below that of Niger and Benin. Do we still keep the cost high so as to discourage smuggling? |

The billions of dollars spent to buy that tokunbo airbus Presido is flying should have bin used to repair all our refineries. Abi is it that difficult for a country that is blessed with rich crude oyel not to have good and functioning refineries? Why is our leaders not ready to make life easy for us nitori Olorun. This issue is like someone that has well in his compound and still suffers to drinks from the well. |

nairalanda1:Clearly, you are in government or probably are among the lucky few that aren't really shaken by the economy. The common man on the street can't buy common necessities while the government lives in opulence, your submission while true lacks empathy for the average Nigerian who have done nothing wrong and apathy for the government who single handedly drove us to this current mess. |

| Re: Benin Republic, Niger Enjoy Smuggled Fuel As Nigerians Keep Vigil For Petrol by Kukutenla: 7:55am On Aug 24, 2024 |
nairalanda1:Why is govt subsidising fuel? That's the question you should answer. If you want fuel to sell at 1500 per litre, then you should advocate for minimum wage of 375k cause that's the equivalent for a buoyant economy Even MTN is complaining if cost of diesel recently and asking to increase tariff or did you miss the news? |
| Re: Benin Republic, Niger Enjoy Smuggled Fuel As Nigerians Keep Vigil For Petrol by nairalanda1(m): 7:55am On Aug 24, 2024 |
Marvyx:And clearly you are a rich man with 10 billion dollars in your account, five beauty queen wives, and twenty beauty queen side chicks, and fifty kids. The common man on the street can't buy common necessities while the government lives in opulence, your submission while true lacks empathy for the average Nigerian who have done nothing wrong and apathy for the government who single handedly drove us to this current mess.Yes, I agree with you, but the reality is, keeping subsides is not going to help the common man long term. Free market polices would help the common man by more jobs, more money especially the money bit...which can be taxed for welfare for the poor common man. Subsidy going is a key part. |

nairalanda1:Shut up olodo subsidy is gone Did Tinubu or FG tell you they're paying Subsidy.. show us or know you are forever foolish What's the job of the customs and immigration handled by the yorubas .. To oversee smuggling at the Nigerian borders You are the problem of this country no one else |

tejumorelar:NO can do. Refineries cannot work until the government obeys the god of the free market and the goddess of the imf...and does as they have revealled unto them Their refusal to do so is why we suffer so from their punishments...or consequences of sinning against them I would offer them ten cows if I was you... |

nairalanda1:We have tried subsidy removal more than six times, the last being May 29, 2023. How come all these your no. 2 never materialised. In the midst of subsidy, we now have Dangote refinery and more indigenous downstream companies so what investment are you talking about again? And what economic theory says more domestic refining will tame hyperinflation or do you just use words you don't know the meaning |

nairalanda1:What are the long term benefits of subsidy removal? More local refining? We already have the largest refinery in Africa with more coming up so what else is there to gain? Quit the lies abeg |
