The above is how we know that some of the commenters on nairaland have the mind of kids.

Bullying is their forte, reasonable conversation they know not.

Also, they get hurt when you don't agree with them
where you the one he was talking to or he was responding to someone else?

if he was talking to someone else, how is that bullying?

pls take note of the highlighted:

all these years, we have been told that the justification for fuel price increase is to discourage smuggling to neighbouring countries.

After all the price increases under the guise of removing subsidy, how come smuggling of fuel to neighbouring countries is still taking place?

do you have any record of smuggling stopping overnight?

how are petroleum products smuggled out of nigeria to neighbouring countries?

when did price of fuel drop after it first to N560-N600?

what price did it drop to?

how much is fuel selling now?

who are the "we" you are referring to?

is it removal of fuel subsidy that stops smuggling?

where in the world is fuel subsidy the reason why smuggling is successful?
I knew you'd read it in 5 seconds, start to reply in another 2 seconds, and spend another 10 seconds typing your reply, making a total of 17 seconds. But I know there's someone on NL who'll read what I wrote and UNDERSTAND it.

Kukutenla:
We should stop deceiving ourselves with this story of smuggled fuel.
I've told people before and I'm glad Punch corroborated it, the fuel moving through the borders is negligible. To claim Niger and Benin Republic are feeding fat on cheap fuel from Nigeria is a big fat lie. No tanker can move fuel across the border. What is mostly used are cars and in foot and even those go in very small numbers because of the risk involved. Besides that, if you combine the number of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles in the three main countries bordering Nigeria together, it is not up to half of the vehicles in Nigeria.
That's besides the fact that more Nigerians use generators than those who have cars.
So this excuse of smuggled fuel causing scarcity is bollocks on my opinion
I thought I was the only one that noticed. The article clearly states that most of the smuggling is done in kegs and in one instance; a 200litre container was mentioned.

That definitely can’t be the cause of the shortages we’re facing.

Someone is withholding some vital information.

Personally, I think some evil persons are trying to create a fake scarcity to justify the prices going up but the evidence of our fuel being smuggled and sold in neighboring nations is proof that the scarcity is being triggered, intentionally.

nairalanda1:
Well I

1. Have a right to comment where I want to comment

2. Have a right to an opinion

3. Have a full understanding of the subsidy thing...my interest began in 2011/12 after all.

And the quickest way to create an energy bonanza is by removing subsides, which would in turn drive up jobs and investment in the sector, which would also reduce or eliminate government spending on subsidy...which would reduce debts and deficits in the budget....which would eventually lead to more money and jobs

All we have to do is spend more time holding government accountable...simple.

The problem with your USA example is the US does not subsidise their petrol or electricity...so both sectors make enough profit to supply enough energy. Following your friend's proposal would only cause more losses...especially as he does not state how the prices are to be made cheaper.

Also USA earns a lot of income....too.

SO, at the end, when subsidy costs go up year in and out and eat a deficit....at the end, you have issues. You want that?

And you obviously should stop using childish insults, dear boy. It makes you look unintelligent.
Why did you insult the guy by calling him unintelligent?

It has also cost us 4 refineries, cost us lost billions in theft, looting smuggling, and so on, created large budget deficits that contribute to the debt, and made NIgeria the dumping ground for low grade fuels from all over the world, and cost us billions if not trillions in import costs for fuel...because no one is going to refine fuel and compete against cheap government fuel...it would make him lose money

I mean right now, if I had a refinery, and sold fuel from there at N1200 and above, how can I compete with imported subsidised fuel at N700 and below, even at N900. I WOULD Lose, and the refienry would close.

See the issue?
