The guy deserves to start ahead of Martinelli going forward . Arteta has no further excuse as to why he’s not starting at this point

That thing Ben White did was straight down deliberate. Ben White hardly budey ball, not when he's free.

E sweet me cos the ball really get Mcginn for face.

Una see wetin dem do Cala for dying minutes?
My thoughts is that Emery wants to be doing a Mourinho on us the way Mou was doing Wenger. Unfortunately for him, no be soft boys dey arsenal again grin grin

Why I feel he’s starting ahead of trossard is cause he defend and trackback better than trossard
While it's true but at a point, that defending and tracking back will no longer be enough to see him start. The way he combines losing the ball, poor decision making and overall poor display is shocking.

That his defending and tracking back immunity go soon wear off

Back to back Raya miraculous Save. Man has been incredible. My goodness!!

Anyone who has Saliba already have 95% of his defense covered. Omorr, today was a monster performance from him.

Another day to say Odegaard is a genius. Those two defence splitting passes to set up Saka for a one on one and to set up play for the first goal was something only the eyes of Ozil and Fabregas can see.
I dunno whether he has a pact not to score Aston Villa but thank goodness his miss wasn't costly today unlike last year.

Trossard must be wondering what he has to do to start. Martinelli dey fall hands big time and it's unfair he's still starting while Trossard is on the bench. Any top team needs a Trossard. Can't believe we bought him for £20m. What a steal.

Villa were well drilled today and their midblock was suberb in disrupting our play from moving out from the back. Thankfully tonight is our night.

Saka 4g/a in 2 games. Starboy!!!!

Brighton next. Hopefully Another 3points to gain.

Coyg!!!
You couldn't have said it better.

Like I wrote few days ago, this match is the real start of the season for me.

As if Arteta knows, even a draw wouldn't have been fine by me.

Not discounting all the past contributions of Martinelli, I think Trossard has earned that left wing.

On to the next match, I just hope Arteta will face every team this season like he is playing City and Villa.

Lol....
I believe Arteta and the boys will face every team the way they're facing Villa and City.

I just had hopes we'll win today's game especially seeing that these people won us twice last season that it badly affected us. Arteta have a way of psyching his team in such situation

I believe this season, I no go lie. This is the season that if it goes wrong, I fit cry cos it is the season that we're really ready in terms of competing.

Hopefully, they bring that trophy home

The guy na real agbero with calm demeanor.
Normally, that thing wey Mcginn do to Saliba vex me wey dey watch(immediately it happened), I can imagine how Agbero White would have felt.
Lol, it was no surprise really for him to revenge that thing and e sweet me say na him side ball reach and not someone like Saka or Odegaard grin grin

Yeah, thank goodness say Cala calm down. Some people in his shoes for done pick fight for there. Emery was stylishly make Arsenal vs Aston Villa one kinda rivalry. I'm sensing it

The way he's falling off is just alarming. Me that's one of his biggest fan here and was really looking forward to his peak.

It'll be a shame if we don't enjoy him cos I know millions of arsenal fan have really been dreaming of 23/24 yr old Martinelli and how he'll tear epl defences to shreds. Now man can't even beat one man

See the way our Lw was lively and productive immediately Trossard entered, and that's even if you neglect his goal scored

It was. You can't watch someone playing your position dropping stinkers and not get angry that you've not been given such trust to immediately replace.

I love Peter Drury's commentary of this game. Oh my! We need to win this league this time.

Whatever it takes. If na 3 more buys(2 wingers and 1 striker) I don't mind.

Martinelli and Trossard have their similarities but they are different types of wingers.

Martinelli is better with transition. Ball to feet, take a man 1v1, create chances etc, run down the flanks- typical winger. Trossard on the other hand is more of a space merchant, ball to space, positioning, goal target.

When Arteta starts Trossard he starts him as a CF/ false 9. Or where the team gets to dominate a box. That's because Trossard is good at positioning but not as good as Martinelli for transitions.

However, if you want a late surge or a tactical attacking manuveur, he is your best bet.

That said, if we should swap their roles and Martinelli begins to play from bench, you will realise that he is as good as Trossard in finishing off games.

What Arteta does between Martinelli and Trossard is purely tactical and has nothing to do with who is better. Same as between Raya and Ramsdale.

The tactical reason is not showing on the pitch one bit. We could’ve scored 2 to 3 goals in the first half if Trossard was on the pitch and Martinelli was on the bench .

Lucas Digne was really on Saka at the right side of attack and that made it imperative for us to channel our attacks through the left with Martinelli having cash to beat most of the times.

Martinelli just kept taking the wrong decisions over and over again thereby bungling our chances of getting a goal early in the match. It was frustrating watching him do absolutely nothing with the ball till he either gets dispossessed or over hit the ball in a bid to pass to another teammate .

Trossard on the other hand knew when to sprint, when to release a pass , when to shoot and when to attempt a shot.

If Villa had scored one or two goals , all those Martinelli’s underwhelming performance would’ve come back to bite us in the asss

The bold is incorrect . Go and watch the full match again. Everything u described here is what Trossard can equally do.

Throughout the match yesterday Martinelli didn’t take any man out 1v1, he had the ball several times and failed to transition it like u are crediting him for now.

When Trossard came on, he was doing exactly what u described Martinelli could do in this paragraph. He was bursting forward with the ball at his feet, running down the flank , creating chances and taking on his man 1v1. Except we watched different matches .

I am one of the biggest Martinelli Stan and I do really really like him for his energy and tenacity ; but as it stands it is criminal if he starts ahead of Trossard going forward .

You are right in your observation but this here is the reason Martinelli will always be preferred. I call it transitions... 👇🏾

Well, if he had performed his attacking duties right we wouldn’t have much defensive job to do in the game.

It’s not like Trossard always stroll when we are on the defensive side tho. I agree Martinelli always track back to our box when we lose possession but it’s not like he recovers the ball most times he does that. He just comes to support the defenders which Trossard and every other member of the team does as well.

That should not be enough to seal a place for him in the team when a more potent attacking threat is sitting on the bench

Both of them can do what each other does. The question is who is better at each instance. My observation is that Martinelli is better with 1v1 situations, tracking back, ball to feet etc while Trossard is better at making runs, ball to space, positioning, finishing. That doesn't mean that the other is zero at those things.

Like I said, Martinelli starting is purely tactical from my view. Not because he is better. If Trossard can guarantee you as a coach a goal for each sub appearance, you will use it maximally. If we begin to start Trossard trust me he will fade off faster than Martinelli.

Also Martinelli can equally come from bench and score a goal. He is that good too.

What Arteta does for me doesn't look like starting who is better but rather a tactical plan.

Both of them are good. Trust me. The little difference in their style of playing is what is keeping Martinelli on the starting lineup not because he is better.

Remember when Nelson was coming from bench and scoring? When he was given a starting chance what did he do?

Remember when Martinelli was coming from bench too? He started scoring also.

It's just tactical.

I don’t agree with nor believe the bolded . But only time will tell.

I believe if Arteta gives Trossard at least 5 uninterrupted starts in which he plays at least 70-80 minutes of football , we will soon forget about Martinelli.

Let Arteta give Trossard enough playing time as much as he gave Havertz and let’s see if we won’t be calling for Martinelli to be strapped to the bench .

I was one of the people that thought Arteta was unfair to Ramsdale until Raya shocked me with a golden glove performance last season having being given enough playing time to show what he’s actually capable of
