The number of doctors fleeing this country abroad , sparking a very dangerous rate of doctor/patient ratio is alarming and a prerequisite for a health crisis. I want to see doctors engage with the Federal Government on this serious matter.

Insecurity is felt by everyone and is not exclusive to medical doctors who are not even targeted by any armed or terrorist group.

Lastly, doctors are held at a higher standard for a reason and should not be downing tools like some artisan or unskilled labourers over a generic matter like this
Some good points.
This is Nigeria.
Some sectors should never be played with.
Doctors, teachers, police, etc

U said insecurity is felt by everyone. Agreed.

Have those people taken drastic measures?

Have we ever as nigerians come out to tell the government that there should be an end inability to rescue kidnap victims.

We are held in high standards but have become objects of mockery.
I see people blaming doctors at every turn forgetting how meagre the workforce is.

Then we gonna lose 1 of our members?

We must learn.

You won’t stop displaying your foolishness and ignorance every time.

Mind you, you are the ones always mentioning me like you did now, so be prepared. Don’t turn back and be playing victim card when the heat is much for you to bear!

When did I write that everyone should keep quiet about the kidnapping?

Nigerians are going through enough hardship already, how many of the masses can afford private hospital charges now that doctors have gone on strike?

If every trade union are going on strike when their members are kidnapped, do you think that life will be bearable for you?

Ode, where did you see me write Taraba? Why won’t you be writing rubbish when you only write to argue with your empty head.

Bring out the communique and show where it is stated that the strike is for insecurity and not because of the kidnapped doctor.

Did you see all the Emir declare strike because of that?

You are frustrated with life, your parents did a poor job raising you and that’s why you want to take your frustration on God, i won’t join you in atheist of theism arguments. Carry your frustrations commot my mention or go and meet your parents who were not good examples of theist people and failed to impart your life positively.
Bast.ard are you aware a doctor was kidnapped for a while and just recently released in Anambra. Also many others have benefited kidnapped but nothing have been done and the issue of insecurity has persisted. I asked you for a preferred alternative action for we doctors but you pretended not to see it.
By the way, your great grand parents were poor sods, they didn't impart good idol worshipping ethics into your grand parents, now see what you have turned into, a pig headed religious bigot on Nairaland

I have gone to read through your post to see why you turn out this unfortunate in life and what I saw made me realize why you have been behaving like a rabid dog everywhere.

You are angry because your father who used to sell alcohol to people and thereby destroying their lives decided to change for good by becoming a Christian and still ended up dying.

So because your father died, you think that God failed you and you decided to revolt against God by not believing in him anymore.

No wonder you are supporting a strike that will lead to the death of many Nigerians. You want other people to become fatherless too. You are a wicked soul

Also, you want me to be an idol worshipper, your problem is that i shouldn’t believe in God. FYI, I’ll continue to be in God, if your Dad died after he repented from his disastrous acts of destroying many lives and turning them into alcoholics, then he is somewhere having eternal rest now but if he didn’t, you will soon end up in hell like him if you don’t retrace your steps and stop being stupid!

When I said that I won’t engage you, what I meant is that I won’t engage you in religious talks. But if you choose to be stupid, irrational and unfortunate, I’ll help to cure you of your folly.

Be my guest, I’ll deal with you!

I’m still awaiting the communique on this strike where the doctors said they are striking against insecurity and not because of their colleague! If you can’t produce it, then you’re a liar like Satan your father!

I see where you're coming from and it's difficult to see reasin with you.

But see how hollow your argument is: doctors are going on strike for the release of one of their own and if that one is released, they will call off the strike. So if the country burns they don't care as long as the government pulls all of its resources to free one of their own, then everything can return to status quo. See how your logic falls on its face?

The foolishness on this platform is mind-blowing.

Doctors will not strike on poor medical equipment or poor facilities or lack of TB and malaria medication in the country or the high rate of child-mother mortality rate where Nigeria is a defending champion in death of mother and child.

But will put patients' life in danger for one of their own , going against its own Hippocratic oath.

Even the police, the most hated government agency in Nigeria have more decorum and professionalism than you people.
One of the NUMEROUS examples where doctors went on strike for poor medical equipment: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2021/8/2/nigerian-doctors-begin-strike-over-pay-inadequate-facilities

You guys should stop calling the Hippocratic Oath in your poor blackmailing attempt.

Look up the doctor-patient ratio in Nigeria and you'll get a hint of the number of lives that are equivalent to a single doctor's.

Kidnapping of medical doctors have been occuring across the country...just a few days ago, a group of medical students were kidnapped.

As an organization, it is only natural to fight for the safety of its members, and as has been shown in the Nigerian story, strike seems to be the only language the government understands.

Whether other associations decide to strike or not is not the issue of today.

Turn this energy with which you throw abuses here and there to the government. You and your likes should urge the government to secure the release of this doctor.

You should be aware that it is idiocy for a nation not to prioritize the lives of its healthcare providers.... comparable to what security personnel are going through now. Doctors cannot continue to go to work when one of them has been in captivity since December last year.

Note that going on strike does not mean unstable patients will be ignored. We have our ways of handling this issue.

It's appalling the hatred doctors in this country face. Read through this thread and you'll find folks speaking bitterly of their doctors... people that work in the midst of impossible conditions to provide care.

It's the same way people throw abuses at our security personnel at the slightest opportunity.

Someone up there wrote that Nigerian doctors contribute nothing to healthcare. Imagine the ignorance.

Most Nigerians are ungrateful. Very ungrateful.

Ironic thing is that when their family member falls sick, they still approach this good-for-nothing Nigerian doctor for treatment.

Una well done sha.

The medical professional should be held to a higher standard.

The present crop of Nigerian doctors cannot be blackmailed, they don't have neither the training or the responsibility or shame to be blackmailed.

Please where in Nigeria are doctors targeted for kidnapping in this country?

A doctor who disregard the Hippocratic oath, the very oath that sets the medical professional apart, is unfit to be a doctor and should be disbarred.

Look up the revised version of the Hippocratic oath known as the PHYSICIAN'S PLEDGE by WHO and educate yourself, so you don't speak ignorantly

To paraphrase it, "I'll prioritize my health and well-being physically and mentally, in order to be able to discharge my duties effectively to my patients"

So my friend, doctors going on strike to protest the kidnap of a colleague is them abiding exactly by the OATH they took. Prioritizing their health and well-being physically and mentally

Indian doctors went on Nationwide strike recently because of rape and murder of a colleague, which is in line with the OATH

The anger should be directly towards the government for the insecurity in the country and not on doctors acting within the OATH they took

Dialogue do not move them. Insecurity has been here for 10 years and worsening. What has the government done? Nothing. Just lip service. And it would continue to worsen til citizens protest, revolt etc. That's when they know you're serious. If not, time would come, kidnappers would be going round to kidnap folks in their sleep, and still nothing would happen. By then, I would be safely outta here
