Though the owner should have split the loss or ask the salesperson to pay back installmentally.

Same thing happened to me last month, the customer did fake transfer of 94k I was asked to pay for it, I paid for it that Same day and I left there work for them.
They have been sending some people to me to beg me to resume back to work but I refused two others working for them have left also.

The shop owner should have reported a theft and not the sales girl/boy paying for it.That’s why you should collect details of your customers in order to track them if need be
