Please, I made payment for my passport online at midnight today and the payment status shows that it has been paid, but the thing is, I haven’t gotten the approval email because it still shows waiting approval. My question is, how many days will it take to get the approval email because my appointment is Sept 2? Thanks in anticipation for your responses.

The reason for the delay in getting an approval email could be the date (2 September 2024) you have picked for capturing/enrolment. The date is very close. You ought to have given it (capturing/enrolment) 19 days from the day you applied and made payment. It is highly important you receive an approval email before going for capturing/enrolment. If after 2 or 3 weeks from the date of application and payment of application fee you are yet to get an approval email, quickly lodge a complaint to NIS.

You can always go for capturing/enrolment even after your appointment date, which is 2 September 2024. You should receive the approval email soon.

Now these are my questions.

1. I was born in 1991, meaning I will be needing affidavit of age declaration but the one I currently have was sworn at the customry Court, no picture attached to it, can it be accepted ?

2. I intend to use my phone , I hope there are option for downloading slip and other necessary receipts, I don't want a situation I will finish application I will not be able to download the necessary slips.

My Experience at NIS Abeokuta



I arrived the Abeokuta NIS office at 7 AM. I met a security officer at the gate who told me I can only be allowed inside until 8 AM. By 7:50, we already had a crowd of about 70 people waiting at the gate to go in. At 8:05, an NIS officer came to address us at the gate. He asked for the elderly to come forward first, followed by the physically challenged, people with kids, and pregnant women. There, we were asked to present our appointment slip (for those capturing) before entry. You can also show them this on your phone. Next, we were marched to a reception where we wrote down our names and given a tag number (I was the first to arrive but I got tag 25).

Afterwards, we were taken to a holding area that looks like a typical lecture hall.

After some minutes, some officers came to call out the names of people whose application has been vetted. I assume these people have come to submit their applications before today. However, it was my first time there and my application hasn't been vetted. The only thing I did was fill out the application form and pay online.

People in my category were then told to go to one area at the reception to vet our application. After that, we were asked to wait at the holding area, meanwhile they called out the first 40 people having tags 1-40 to head upstairs for capturing.

I was holding tag 25 so I went to meet the officers and asked if I should follow that set of people but I was told to wait behind.

Then the wait began.

I was in the holding area till about 11:30 AM when one officer came to call my name. I followed him upstairs to the capturing room and I was done with capturing at 12:01 PM.


In summary, I was at the NIS office in Abeokuta for a fresh passport application today. I got there at 7 AM and left at 12 PM. The experience was smooth and the officials were professional.


Documents I went with (2* copies each):

1. Payment receipt
2. Appointment slip
3. Application slip

I made the payment on Aug 19 and got the approval mail this morning while I was at the NIS office.

Please who has done birth attestation certificate on NPC portal before , I have been on it since morning, made payments, it keep showing NIN NOT FOUND, I have to skip the NIN and proceed so that i can come back later and update with NIN, yet it keeps Showing NIN not found on the process of updating. but my NIN is working perfectly on other platforms like immigration portal, what could be wrong with NPC

Although I have reached out to NPC on WhatsApp they said -"The nin verification is having a downtime, Please try again at the end of the day or tomorrow"

Has anyone ever experience this ?

Have you checked your spam folder? You can try your luck and proceed to the NIS office to continue your application even if you haven't received the approval mail yet. I never knew anything about the approval when I went for capturing today.
