Do You Know Of Any Group Called Izu Anioma? by oyichi(op): 8:12am On Aug 27, 2024
As am talking to you, I am in kwale, the heartland of Ndokwa nation which comprises of three local governments, Ndokwa west, Ndokwa east and Ukwuani local government areas, kwale is the headquarter of Ndokwa west local government area and is also considered to be the capital of Ndokwa nation, I have been here for about one week now because this is where my mother hails from, this gave me the opportunity to ask my people about izu anioma, surprisingly, of all the people I asked, from an aid to the pdp chaiman of the LGA to three newly elected ward councilors, no one knows anything about the group, the group is not popular at all here, it's only my uncle who is a stounch pdp chieftain that told
me something about it yesterday, he said izu anioma is just a political group loyal to senator nwoko and they are mainly found in asaba and it's environs, he said that he doesn't know of such group here if it exists and that they don't have any right to say anything on behalf of Ndokwa people, He said that Ned is just playing politics, that everyone in anioma wants a state but that state must be the seventh state in the south south , lomping anioma state to the south east is not possible and will be resisted by Ndokwa people, extensively, he told me how we managed to be speaking ibo related language in Ndokwa, it's a very long story but my mother's tribe are not ibos, they migrated from idu, that story should be for another day, don't force your tribe and culture on people because of politics and interests

During the Nigeria-Biafra war, all the people from Igbanke in present Edo, Ekpon in present Edo to Asaba in Delta down to Kwale and all Ndokwa people were called IGBOS. How did the Hausa and Yoruba soldiers know that these people were IGBOS, you may ask? The Binis in old Orhiowon, the Urhobos, the Isolos and adjacent tribes borderin Anioma helped these soldiers to identify the IGBO tribes in then Midwest.

Anyone is free to say what pleases him or her, however, when push goes to shove, the Ikas, including Igbanke and Ekpon, the Kwales and Ndokwas, the Ibusas and Onicha-olona, Onicha, Aniochas, whatever and Asagba people are all IGBOS. The term Delta or Midwest IGBO is a subjugal and derogatory term. You can keep deceiving yourself forever, nonone cares. That Anioma is today part of Delta was a creation of Maryam Babangida, who was instrumental in lumping IGBOS with oil-rich Deltans. Before Midwest was created the Aniomas were part of Benin province, not part of Delta province. Learn your history to be free.

Those who coined Anioma from acronyms of the people were not fools. Just because you live on the other side of River Thames does not make you a different British than those on the other side. In the same vein, just because you live on the opposite of River Niger does not make you not to be IGBO. There are many other tribes on the other side of the Niger that have not been and will never be called IGBOS.

The constitution of Nigeria does not recognise anything called South East or South South, so only foolish people will be worried about being lumped into something not recognised by law

But the question people from Ndokwa or Ukwani have to ask themselves is this. How is it that they migrated from Bini or Idu, as the case may be, but lost their names, their language and culture to Igbo? For example, Ukwuani practice "Okpala-ukwu", but in Anambra we practice the same, although we call it "Okpala-Ekpili" in my part of Anambra, but still the same.

If people migrated from one continent to another, lost their language, names and culture, I would understand, the distance is far. But Ukwuani is just a few hours walk from where some of them claim to have migrated from, but lost their language, name and culture to Igbo

Someone should explain this magic to me

Once upon a time the same Izu Anioma declared they were not Igbos, that is how they politicised ethnicity in Delta North. When it suits them they are Igbo when it doesn't they will deny being Igbos.

You can create any development commission and call it any name. However, the constitution of Nigeria only recognises 36 states, 774 LGA's and Abuja. If anyone decides to get some states and call the North North or West West, the constitution knows nothing about that one

Can you swear you never made a case for southeast or argument based on the 6 geo political regions?
We are all aware how the 6 regions came about during Abacha constitutional conference.

I do not understand what oil and gas got to do with Anioma. Even if you produce all the oil and gas in Ndokwa today, which I doubt, look back to 1984/85 when Delta state was created. How much of such oil and gas production was there? Leaving oil and gas aside, I ask you, what is your native language? How is your ancestry being Idu different from those of Onitsha, Ibusa, etc people who also claim to originate from Udu? If Ibusa, Asaba and Onitsha people who also originated from Idu are Igbos, what makes Ndokwa different?
Like I said, the Yorubas on different side of Ogumpa River have different dialects, but they all are Yorubas. Even those in Benin Republic do not deny their Yoruba origin.
The Ndokwas, Aniochas, Ishimilis, Ikas are all IGBOS, argue all you want. There is absolutely NOTHING like Delta Ibos
