Many passengers were injured following a late-night collision involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses at the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos on Tuesday.

The accident occurred within the BRT lane on Lagos Abeokuta Express Way, around Danco Filling Station, according to a post on X by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

It added that the wounded persons had been rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

An additional statement by the head of the public affairs unit, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor said investigations at the scene revealed that the BRT bus headed inward Iyana Ipaja in an attempt to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers plying the BRT corridor illegally, collided with an oncoming BRT bus.

According to Okunbor, no lives were lost as a result of the incident.

“However, passengers of both buses reportedly suffered various degrees of injuries and were all taken to the nearest hospital before the arrival of Agency’s Response Team,” he said.

He added that two tow trucks were activated to evacuate the accident BRT buses off the road.

If you check well, bad road may not be the cause of this accident. Reckless driving kills more than bad roads do in Nigeria.

A potholes or a gallop is likely not what created the need for the motorcyclist to illegally ply the BRT corridor. At least, the motorcyclist was reckless on the road by plying the BRT corridor. Also, the BRT driver was reckless for not noticing the motorcyclist in time.

-A BRT bus driver hijacked, raped and killed a lady in the night along Lagos Island - Agege route

-The other day it was a BRT bus that was crushed by a train due to the overt recklessness of the driver @ PWD crossing @ Ikeja.

-Recently it is the accident involving the above overturned bus leading to minor injuries.

-Today, it is another set of BRT buses whose drivers stupidly choose to engage in dare-devil gambling with the lives of their passengers by engaging in another bout of reckless driving.

What is really wrong with BRT in Lagos today? These recurrent ugly incidences are worrisome.

What is happening to all these BRT lately? The conventional Molue buses seems to be safer than the so called BRT in recent time.

Hope it’s not the curses from the banned Okada riders that is affecting them!

Kudos to the drivers. They should confiscate any bike on BRT corridor.

Something needs to be done about the bike men always driving along that BRT corridor. Those bike men are mostly policemen and Soldiers who use their bikes to hustle when they are off duty.

Most times the task force officers along that corridor don't arrest them because they are their comrades; so they just do espirit de corps and allow them safe passage.

Like a week ago, I saw one literally climb two cars which were just on their own oh... Whether na touts dey drive them, I no come know again.

Lol, when you employ Agbero to be driving Metropolitan Buses, I give those guys enough space ,like I always stay clear of the normal road for them to pass whenever I'm driving, they drive so recklessly, never impressed with their driving for once.
