They do have family members, of course, and they also have the right to sue if they feel they have been defamed. That's what the courts are there for. The court is not there to take away the rights of any Citizen. The Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land, supercedes your courts and so your courts cannot do what it is you all seem to desire which is to strip those you love to hate of their rights. It cannot be allowed and should not.

Police is acting because someone reported to them and they have the duty to protect the rights of both parties
But to you it's only the journalists that should have rights
And the police is just doing work nobody sends them.

Posting unverifiable propaganda is not a criminal offense even in Nigeria. So, an arrest in such cases is actually illegal according to

1. Section 32(2) of the Nigerians Police Act 2020 & Section 8(2)of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 clearly states that a person shall not be arrested merely for a civil wrong or a breach of contract. So, if you have a problem with a particular person whom you feel has defamed, you can take it to court where it can be decided.

And I believe I corrected you several saying that even in such cases, defamation is handled and proven in court, not first with police arrests. Read through Section 373 - Section 381 do not prescribe police arrests before the court is engaged in those cases.

Police arrests can only occur according to that stipulated in Section 35(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, Section 38(1) of the Nigerians Police Act 2020 & Section 18(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. Any arrest made outside of that is illegal or even kidnapping.

There is free speech but these are not journalists but rather for-hire pen pusher machineries hired by both internal and external forces to print and circulate unverified news, propaganda and lies.
