It’s not a complex issue. The cultural “underpinning” there is that their culture much like Nigeria’s adopted culture of female subjugation doesn’t favor women.

A modern society where divorce rates are high often (not always) but often reflect female exit power. AKA women who are empowered to remove themselves from bad or potentially dangerous relationships. This is progress.

Long lasting marriages whose longevity depends on divorce stigma/women’s shame of being called divorcees is not a flex.

Nigeria should absolutely have higher divorce rates. So should India.

Before people accuse me of wanting broken homes, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m hoping for better marriages. Not bad ones that women are told they have to stick to.

I believe that unfortunately the majority of these divorces comes from the north where men easily cast aside the children they married in order to marry more children. I’d love to be proven wrong though.

The type of divorces our society needs is happening but it’s nowhere near where it should be. I mean the divorces where women aren’t staying in physically, emotionally and financially abusive relationships just because they feel too powerless and financially inadequate to leave.

If we say marriage in 🇳🇬 should be limited people who don’t actively hate each other, only 25 percent of the couples will remain married.

Let's be very truthful here, divorce is high now because of the proliferation of hookups. A lot of women are going out of their marriages simply because they seek financial freedom and the fastest way to obtain that is selling their pussies. Hookup is now so rampant and any little disagreement between husband and wife, the ladies opts out because she would have freedom to do as she likes and sell her kopeks to the highest bidder.

Much as I agree with you some of your positions, I'll like to iterate that in life, we face vicissitudes and they come in spectrums. While women from other cultures and climes are able to navigate the spectrum and still keep the centre from falling apart, Nigerian women sometimes seem to be fretful and intolerant when they face a little uneasiness and feel that the next thing is opt out.

Somethings need to be fixed.
