Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, on Friday said it’s leadership failure for President Bola Tinubu to acquire a new presidential jet while Nigerians are hungry.

Last week, Tinubu’s senior aide, Bayo Onanuga, had confirmed the arrival of a new presidential jet for the Nigerian president.

Onanuga said Nigeria procured an Airbus A330 to replace the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 acquired under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

But, Duke said the move should be considered as a “leadership failure” due to the current economic condition of Nigerians.

Featuring on Channels TV Inside Sources anchored by Laolu Akande, Duke said: “There is no glamour in saying your people are going through hard times; it is a failure of your leadership. If I am the head of a family, I want my family to have everything. I don’t want life to be difficult for them.

“If life is difficult, then I feel I have failed to provide for them or do the things I ought to have done. I would ask him (Tinubu) to see the Nigerian nation as his family. What is good for his family is good for the nation.

“Buying a new aircraft or yacht or living large is a failure. You can’t have kids who are hungry and you are living lavishly, going to parties and wearing the biggest agbada.”

I will consider it an offence,if he had bought more than one jet. But buying a functional presidential jet in my own opinion is not bad considering the fact that the one being used at the moment is not totally okay.

Young man some of us that stayed in Lagos in the period Tinubu governed the state knew that he did but nothing. It was Fashola that came to change the tide of governance while Ambode built on the successes of Fashola. It is still surprising the type of hype they ascribe to Tinubu to me. Old man, rest. I was born and lived Lagos most of my life. I attended the Egbeda Millennium school Tinubu created. It was a mid standard secondary school. Hundreds of people from your tribe filled the school, both teachers and students. Hundreds from other tribes. It molded us. This was uncommon in most other states during the time, as many Anamabra people always flocked Lagos. That's among countless other things.
