Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has expressed concerns that the rising cost of living and arbitrary hike in the pump price of petrol amid scarcity has contributed to the number of fewer vehicles plying the Nigerian roads.https://punchng.com/fuel-scarcity-fewer-vehicles-on-nigerian-roads-falana-laments/

Omooba77:Falana has it all wrong! Technically, Tinubu has merely accomplished what he proposed back in 2019 which is to widen the tax net so that every Nigerian, including the impoverished, is made to pay taxes even if in suffering. In so doing, he has also reduced the purchasing power of Nigerians, something he may not have intended. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZA_vYoWXQg |

Taking public transport is more economical than going out with personal car now, unless you are going out with your wife and kids.Having a car is classified as a luxury now and no longer a necessity.APC government do this one😏 |

The scam has been on for long since the Buhari era. Unfortunately, the heading did not capture the message well. What Falana is pointing to is two things. 1. Nigerian govt always claim that smuggled fuel to other countries contributes to our high subsidy cost. Meanwhile, it will take about 2000 tankers of fuel leaving Nigeria everyday to meet the calculated loss from smuggling. Now, how is it possible for 2000 tankers to leave Nigeria undetected everyday along our land borders with the bad roads? 2. After the subsidy is gone statement, the fuel consumption was reported to have dropped to about 43m litres only to have risen back to over 60m litres in the past year. This is as we know that less Nigerians now use cars compared to before the statement. How do you account for the rise in fuel import in this crippling economic conditions? |
