Two policemen and a driver were reportedly killed by gunmen in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State as suspected kidnappers moved to abduct Mrs. Christy Uroye, wife of the lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Augustine Uroye, on Monday night.

Eyewitnesses said the abductors shot dead the three victims, in their struggle to kidnap the woman whom the policemen were escorting in the SUV conveying her along Jakpa road, during the incident.

PUNCH Metro however gathered that the abductors’ getaway vehicle got disrupted as it crashed while making a frantic bid to escape with the captive, along the busy road, thus allowing for Mrs. Uroye’s rescue.

The victim is said to be currently receiving treatment at a nearby private hospital.

Eyewitnesses narrated that during the attack, residents of the area were forced to flee from the scene to avoid getting hit by bullets.

When PUNCH Metro contacted the Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Monday night, he confirmed the incident but claimed that the operation was “not successful.”

Edafe further stated in a terse message that three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects’ vehicle.

Corroborating the PPRO’s statement, a family source who spoke with our correspondent, on Tuesday, on the condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to speak with the media, also affirmed that “the abductors’ vehicle got involved in an accident along the road with their captive while the woman is now receiving treatment in a private hospital in the locality.”

The source did not, however, confirm whether or not the abductors were arrested in the ensuing melee.

My thoughts are with the family of the police officers and the driver, and I hope they receive the compensation they deserve from the corrupt politician.

The fingerprints of the kidnappers will be on the recovered guns and in the vehicle.

The police can identify the kidnappers easily if they want to work.

We need state police, local government police and city police. Let everyone have their own police and recruit the best people that can secure them.

Those kidnappers are living amongst us and are highly celebrated in the society because of wealth.
They kidnapp innocent people and keep their families in safe places to enjoy life.

Did they escape? After their motor crashed and their guns were being seized at d scene.

Those police attached to these politicians won't know d day of attack during their escort. I hope their families are remembered

So means at least 5 will be guarding him and by extrapolation,5 will be guarding the wife of Reps member and at least 8 for the Rep!!

Insecurity all over the country and we have a commander in chief. If those tasked with securing lives and property can't do so they should be replaced or more honorable resign

Imagine how many will be guarding those that have more than one wife like Ned Nwoko and those northern senators.

The governor should do more on security,warri is gone already with lack of development and insecurity.May the soul of the departed rest in peace.Our big men should start taking good care of their drivers and security, this are people putting their lives at risk in other to protect you.I wish the criminals can be going after the rich people and leave the poor ones alone.
