Operatives Of The Nasarawa State Police Command attached to Kadarko Division have arrested one Isa Usman, a quack medical doctor.

The Suspect was nabbed on Wednesday at the Iyayi Village, Kadarko district of Keana Local Government Area, LGA of the state for allegedly procuring and administering Procaine Injection on one Zaki Yaka Ajohol which led to his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel made this known in a statement he issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect whose level of education is the primary school leaving certificate hails from Pindi village, Akko LGA of Gombe State.

The suspect claimed to have been trained at Asibitin Yusuf in Agyaragu, Obi LGA of the State.

He confessed to procuring and administering procaine injection on his victim for three days to treat typhoid.

On the fourth day, the suspect administered the same dose of injection, which made the victim fall immediately after and become unconscious.

The victim, according to the PPRO was “was rushed to primary health care at Akeleku where he was confirmed dead. Consequently, some drugs and other medical implements were recovered from the suspect as an exhibit.

“The Commissioner Of Police Umar Shehu Nadada has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia for further Investigation And Prosecution”.

This is practically what is going on in our rural communities.
We have one in my village known as "doctor". He is barely literate and owns a patent medicine store. And funny enough a lot of people go to his shop for all sorts of treatments.
Our people prefer quacks because of accessibility, convenience and affordability.
I plead with our various tiers of government to bring affordable health care facilities closer to the people especially in rural communities in order to eradicate this kind of incidence.

What are the works and functions of the Medical and Doctors association in Nigeria and, the state/local government health sectors needs to go round their state of jurisdictions to verify the health facilities - being it private and Government owed?

How often do they visit and confirm who are the real doctors/nurses/midwifery in this sectors?

The Chiefs and CDAs Chairman can do it and report their findings to the LGA chairman and the Governors.

Some of these criminals also hide under the umbrella of excos members of the CDAs or Landlord Association.
