CBN Sells $20,000 To BDCs At ₦‎1,580 by NwaNimo1(op): 1:03am On Sep 07, 2024
The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced the sale of dollars to Bureau De Change operators.

This was disclosed by the apex bank in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Trade and Exchange Department, Dr W. J Kanya, on Friday.

The latest intervention of the central bank comes days after the Nigerian naira has been taking a beating at both the official and parallel market where it has depreciated to about 1,670/$ on Friday.

The circular partly read, “This is to inform the Bureau De Change Operators and the general public that we are providing more liquidity into the market.

“To this end, the CBN has approved the sale of US$20,000.00 to each eligible BDC at the rate of N1,580/$. This is to meet the demand for invisible transactions.”
grin

The bank said the BDCs are allowed to sell to eligible end-users at a margin not more than one per cent above the purchase rate from CBN.

Eligible BDCs interested in this transaction were advised to make the Naira payment to the CBN.

Perhaps, Tinubu should consider the revaluation of naira to 980 per dollar. It will help the economy. Our purchasing power will increase

Half of the BDCs are probably owned by politicians... The largest beneficiaries of CBN dollar subsidy in Nigeria are Northern politicians/BDCs and Saudi-bound Muslim pilgrims, yet we wonder why the economy is the way it is.

Before Emilokan wasted about N100B on Hajj tourism, Emefiele was splashing out dollars to BDCs and Hajj Pilgrims at ridiculously cheap rates, most of which went into the Saudi economy.

Nigeria is not a serious country so I wonder what people expect when we see the result of reckless policies and expenditure that have 0 economic benefit.

Under Buhari, Emefiele was even more reckless. Not like this one too has anything upstairs, but it has always been the trend.

They waste Forex on BDCs, most of which are owned by politicians and spend recklessly on Hajj pilgrimage, money that ends up in Saudi's economy. These are issues that government should not intervene in... I thought they said they wanted market forces to determine the value of FX? So why the parallel policies.

Outlaw BDCs for God sake. It's a black market.
Maybe CBN should start offering Platinum Card so they can monitor the spending

Cbn sells dollars to politicians who own bdc expecting them to sell to the public rather the bdc transfers the dollars to politicians account in Switzerland

Nigeria is truly gone. One man is holding a country of over 200 millions at jugular like this. They are through with fuel increase, now is time with dollars racketeering and next is power holding again. Write it down here today, in the next one week, Adelabu will come with his analysis of how they cannot come to term with current electricity consumption term again. This I have seen.

If they are selling at that rate, it means that they have emboldened BDCs to sell at 1600 or more, meaning that the value of naira is still depreciating.

I am a bit interested in the profit to be made by each bdc on the $20k forex sales which is exactly N316k. This can be made in one fell swoop transaction actually. 😊
