Humans can be terrible that you wish God made a mistake by creating them.

Don't let anybody kill you in this life. In 20years, this guy will be out of prison and if he may still enjoy life before he dies.

Defend your life with everything you have got. There is no punishment that is enough to compensate for murder. Even if the person is sentenced to death, he or she may still end up in a better afterlife (assuming they are religious).
