By JENNA ANDERSON - September 17, 2024 01:30 pm EDT We're just a few months away from the launch of Creature Commandos, the inaugural entry into James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. The Max-exclusive animated series features an all-star cast of voice actors, including Stranger Things and Thunderbolts* star David Harbour as Victor Frankenstein. Before Creature Commandos' premiere, Harbour is already looking ahead to the character's larger DCU tenure. While speaking to ComicBook about his role as BoxLunch's Giving Ambassador, Harbour touched on the future of Creature Commandos — specifically, the notion that the cast will reprise their roles in live-action. "I don't know if I'm waiting for the phone call," Harbour explained. "I mean, I'm not like down by the phone. but no, there's nothing specific yet or at least I haven't heard anything specific. But I know that what tends to happen with these things is like the project's really good. And I just have a feeling... I think Frank (Grillo's) already moved into Peacemaker. I have a feeling it probably will come up. The project's really good. We'll talk about it at New York Comic Con, but it's like it's it's very special, very funny. I think you've probably seen the trailer. It's really great. All those all those characters, Dr. Phosphorus and the Bride... I can't imagine they wouldn't want to do it live action, but we'll have to see. That's all in the mind of the wacky, brilliant James Gunn." "I wonder what it would be," Harbour said of whether Frankenstein would be rendered practically or in CGI. "I'm...yeah, I'm not thrilled about that. I think they might do...if they did it. I think they might do the CGI thing that they did with Taika [Waititi's Korg] in Thor: Ragnarok. I feel like there's probably a universe of that nowadays. I feel like the practical stuff, although I love it, is really falling a bit by the wayside." What Is Creature Commandos About? Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they're your last, worst option. 🚨🚨🚨 UPDATES 🚨🚨🚨🚨 Frank Grillo on the upcoming DC franchise I know, as far as timeline, Creature Commandos hits in December, and then as far as Superman and Peacemaker, that's out in 2025. They haven't told us anything by design. James Gunn is cutting everything right now, I'm about to go finish the last couple of episodes with James directing on Peacemaker, and that's about as much as I could say. It's all Rick Flag, it's all the same character throughout, which I love. I could not be more appreciative to James and Peter Safran. These guys are running DC now, and they've brought me into this fold in a big way. I think fans are going to be blown away by the mind of James Gunn. He's been let free. Why do I have this feeling that James Gunn, like many of us in the early 2000's, spent his Saturday mornings watching this cartoon He is obviously using this cartoon as a template for the DCU. Justice League Unlimited had established heroes who had been around for years. Superman existed in a world with many heroes just like him. The JSA had been around since WW2. John is the main Green Lantern. I don't know. But it's kinda obvious what Gunn is doing.

I won't be surprised to see a pot-belly ( his Guy Gardner easily comes to mind) actor cast as Batman under Gunn one day, likewise seeing a 70yr old grandpa as the new Green Arrow  Aside their good acting skills, these characters also need to look believable just like their comics counterpart.. Their physical built are also very important too.. I can still recall in All-Star Superman animated movie when one of the reporters in Daily Planet was asking Lois Lane of "how come Clark Kent looked so physically imposing (very muscular in structure), but he's never been seen hitting the gym" not really verbatim. It may sound just like another ordinary line to many, but to few, that line tells more of what really make up these comics book characters... Batfleck still stands out as the most accurate Batman till date not just because of his acting abilities alone, but also too for his physical looks that can easily send shivering down those Gotham criminals and rogues spins, and also made him look believable to the viewers... |

By CHARLIE RIDGELY - September 30, 2024 04:42 pm EDT There for a bit, comic book fans believed that Josh Brolin, who has already played Thanos and Cable, was set to lead DC Studios and HBO's Green Lantern TV series. Reports indicated that Brolin was being eyed for the role of Hal Jordan, arguably the most well-known Green Lantern, playing an older version of the character that would be showing the ropes to a younger John Stewart. Brolin later turned down the role, which ultimately went to Friday Night Lights and Bloodline star Kyle Chandler, and Brolin is ready for other potential projects in the future. While speaking to ComicBook about his new movie Brothers, which he stars alongside Peter Dinklage, Brolin addressed the talks with DC and confirmed that he wasn't taking on the role. "You know what? Green Lantern didn't work out, but that's okay," Brolin told us. "It's working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he's wonderful, actually. And, you know, we'll see what's down the line, man." That last part is key, as Brolin seems to leave the door open for another role in the new DC Universe, should one open up down the line. He has already played Thanos in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as a turn as Cable in Deadpool 2. Adding a major DC role would make him one of the more prolific performers in the comic book movie space. Ozark's Chris Mundy is serving as the showrunner for Lanterns and co-writing alongside Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and DC Comics writer Tom King. This HBO series is said to be a murder mystery that plays more like a season of True Detective than a typical superhero adventure. "We are elated to be reuniting with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom for this fresh take on DC's 'Green Lantern,'" Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, said in a statement when Lanterns was officially greenlit. "As part of James and Peter's vision for the DC Universe, this first new live action series will mark an exciting new era." By Christian Holub Published on October 3, 2024 12:00PM EDT As the new universe of DC movies and shows kicks off this year from studio co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, viewers should expect one constant on screen across the first few projects: Frank Grillo. The actor will first appear as team leader Rick Flag, Sr. in animated series Creature Commandos, which premieres this fall on Max. The character has roots in the DC universe already as the father of the late Rick Flag, Jr., a figure played by Joel Kinnaman in Gunn's The Suicide Squad (2021). The filmmaker previously confirmed that Grillo will also play Flag in season 2 of Peacemaker, which sets up potential conflict since it was that show's titular character (John Cena) who killed Flag's son in an earlier movie. And it doesn't stop there. After paparazzi pics surfaced of Grillo on the set of Superman, Gunn confirms to Entertainment Weekly that Rick Flag, Sr. will be a part of next summer's big-screen release. "He is a really cool character that Frank has been molding," Gunn tells EW. "The character's also in Superman, and he's an incredibly important part in Peacemaker. He is one of the primary characters in Peacemaker season 2. So we get to see this character from different angles, and he is not simple." "This isn't just a good guy, not at all," Gunn continues. "We see all different sides of his character. He is morally a complex human being. Grillo is somebody who I've known for a little while, and I've wanted to work with him for a long time. He was one of the first people that I talked to when I took over the studio, like 'we're going to find something cool for you,' and now he is everywhere." Creature Commandos, written and executive produced by Gunn, centers around a secret team of incarcerated monsters who are recruited to execute missions that are too dangerous for humans. So if there's a Superman video game or animated series following next year's movie, the character will likely be played by star David Corenswet in those versions, as well.
