Confirmation as a Catholic to qualify one for the communion: is this biblical or just catholic tradition, bible references are welcomed! Because communion does not discriminate whether a member of another religion outside of Christianity. immortalcrown: |

paxonel:It is not about the right answer. It is about understanding that as a Catholic, having asked for mercy several times during the mass, I should be bold to walk down the isle to the altar to receive the communion. But this is not the case with many in the church. Last week Sunday, while the communion was going on, I saw good Catholics sitting on the pew regurgitating over their sins in self condemnation. These are those who received the communion the previous week but last week Sunday they did not go to the altar to receive and my question is why? Does it mean God did not hear their prayer during the mass? I know God heard their prayers because the word says, if we confess our sins, he is able to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. But these Catholics have not had this understanding. I weep in my heart every time I go to mass and see my fellow Catholics disenfranchising themselves from the communion, the body of Christ, because they lack understanding of righteousness. It is not about them, it's about Jesus and his sacrifice, and what the word of God says. If only Catholics would stand on the word, oh! |

ocnovakmichael:Anything doctrine in most churches and religious settings are treated and handled much more conservatively irrespective of acquired knowledge. I can tell you that the ancient Vatican had restricted the bible from ancient Catholics allowing only the priests to have assess to it. But when Catholics started having assess to the the bible in the late 18th century and were seeing disparties in doctrines, it was already late to do doctrinal corrections, even till this day. |

paxonel:Now you get the point the writer is trying to communicate. We Catholics need to see beyond our traditions and doctrines, however good they are. And go neck deep into what God says. If the word says God forgives, then that's it, irrespective of our dogma. As for me and my household, the King James Bible is a delight. I have esteemed God's word more than my necessary food, and even more than catholic catechism and doctrines. |

ocnovakmichael:If you're convinced that the doctrines of your religion negates God's word then why continue with such a religion? Jesus said: "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 Had it been someone else is saying this you will say such a person is demeaning your faith but ọmọ it's you as in your own very self so why delay if you know your Well your parents have played their part that's why you found yourself in a religion claiming Christian because they (your parents) decided to stop worshiping what they realized is false God but if you after knowing this stick to what they discovered then you are practicing what your parents abandoned: IDOLATRY! |

MaxInDHouse:Thanks brother, you're not far from the truth. I know the truth because the Holy Spirit is my teacher. However, because I know the truth that's the reason I'm sharing with my fellow Catholics. I have to be in the system to be a light in the system to those who are still trying to grasp the truth. I'm in the system when the Spirit expounded the word to me. So, I have to teach many who are still in the system, yet unenlightened. Just because you're in the world, does not mean you should incline to everything that's in the world. However, you have to be in the world so that through the word you could change the world. Brother if I've not stated that I'm Catholic, many would think I'm attacking the faith, but as a Catholic, I have to bring to light the foolishness of some Catholic doctrines that the word of God may be glorified. Every time I attend mass I weep because I see many Catholics confused of their own doctrines. Many are bound by the doctrines of Catholic catechism, but I'm not bound. One time a Catholic sister saw me listening to a teaching of a preacher demonstrating the gift of the Holy Ghost in tongues, and she began making jest of tongues. She said that's how the Pentecostal Pastors confuse the congregation and obtain money from their pockets. When she said that I wept: because here is a woman who when in mass, the Rev Father would pray in Latin and the choir would sing hymns in Latin that she did not understand, yet she won't complain that she doesn't understand what the priest is saying. But here is a Pastor speaking in tongues and she went ballistic. At another time while attending the mass, the Rev father said, that Pentecostalism in the bane of Christian disunity. He spoke negatively about many Pastors receiving tithes and offerings. But during the mass, one of the lectors announced that today is tithe Sunday. And the same Priest came out to bless the congregants who came forward to present their tithes. Seeing this, I'm like, this very Rev Father just spoke against Pastors who received tithes, but here he is receiving the same thing he just preached against. And nobody in the church complained. As a Catholic, I was taught in Catechism that, the mass is the highest form of prayer. Nevertheless, a month ago, I saw a brother who after the mass is ended, went to the statue of Christ and touched it, and began to pray. After he'd finished praying at the statue of Christ, he went straight to the statue of Mary and repeated the same action: touched the statue and began praying. I couldn't help but to observe this sincere brother, and I was like, you just attended mass, which is the highest form of prayer according to catholic doctrine, and still went to the statue of Christ to make your request. As if to say the Lord hasn't heard his prayer, this brother proceeded to the statue of Mary. And I watched in disbelief. I believe if the statue of Joseph and Peter, and Paul were there, this brother would have placed hands on all of them. No, all that is necessary for that brother is to present his request in line with God's word and believe God for the answers. He doesn't necessarily need to place hands on any statue whether of Christ or Mary or Joseph, or Peter, or Paul. All answers from God comes by faith in his word. Scripture says, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him..." (Hebrews 11:6) There's so much confusion in some Catholic doctrines. However, Catholics are good and sincere, and want to serve God, but there's no teacher to teach them the word. They're like sheep without shepherd. I know this because I'm a Catholic. Let it be known to all Catholics that I'm not here to slander Catholics, but rather to illustrate the fallibility of some Catholic doctrines and dogmas. I have so much to say, but time would not permit me. But I hope many that would criticize this article would just look around objectively during mass and see many confused brethren in church, bereft of the word of God abiding in them. Every Sunday I see the same pattern over and again in the Catholic congregation. All you need to do to see this is look Jesus is Lord! |

| Re: A Conversation With A Catholic by ocnovakmichael(op): 3:58pm On Oct 20, 2024 |
MaxInDHouse:The Holy Spirit is ever present in all churches, and in and with all believers in Christ, however, men chose to prioritize their doctrines over the revealed word. This is wrong! 1 Corinthians 3:16 (AMP) [16]Do you not know and understand that you [the church] are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells [permanently] in you [collectively and individually]? John 1:12 (KJV) [12]But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: The Catholic congregation, bless their hearts, wants to serve God in their very core of heart but are wrong in their heads in some doctrines. The Holy Spirit is ever present in Catholic churches, nevertheless, since they decide to prioritize their doctrines and dogmas over the word, the Holy Spirit could do little in their congregation. Mark 6:5 [5]And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. Matthew 13:58 [58]And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. |

| Re: A Conversation With A Catholic by ocnovakmichael(op): 8:36pm On Oct 20, 2024 |
MaxInDHouse:The question shouldn't be "what's the role of the Pope and the Vatican?" rather the question should be what are Catholic members doing about it? The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher, but many Catholics have refused to open the Bible and read for themselves. Until you open the Bible and read, the Spirit cannot do much to help you! |
| Re: A Conversation With A Catholic by MaxInDHouse(m): 10:08pm On Oct 20, 2024 |
ocnovakmichael:If you know so much about the incompetence of your church then why remain a Catholic? Jesus told his disciples: “Keep your eyes open and watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Matthew 16:6 Well this means his disciples should watch out, not for the leaven of bread, but the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. So if the Catholic Church is teaching heresy and you remain there don't you think you are trying to mend a sinking ship? |
| Re: A Conversation With A Catholic by ocnovakmichael(op): 10:26pm On Oct 20, 2024 |
MaxInDHouse:Christ is the head over all things to the church, even Catholic churches. The Catholic church though might be wrong in many doctrines, yet will not sink because Jesus is still on the throne as the head over all church, irrespective of denomination. What would happen is that God would raise pocket cell members in the Catholic church to steer the minds of many to the word of God. In the years to come, you will see doctrinal reforms in the Catholic church as the younger generation would be steered by the Spirit of God and this will cause a ripple effect in the church at large, beginning from Africa. Before your generation will pass away, you will see this come to pass. |

ocnovakmichael:Please read what Jesus said about false religion created by Satan in the name of Jesus @ Matthew 13:24-30 He presented another illustration to them, saying: “The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ He said, ‘No, for fear that while collecting the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse. Matthew 13:24-30 According to Jesus it's Satan who is behind the numerous religions claiming Christians today real disciples of Christ have the same line of thought and teaching {John 17:22; 1Corinthians 1:10; Ephesians 4:3} so don't think countless religions contradicting themselves in doctrines and teachings are all disciples of Christ Jesus that's Satan's plan to blur the senses of unsuspecting individuals! 2Corinthians 4:4 Jesus' disciples have a work assigned to them and they are doing just that from the first century till today! |

ocnovakmichael:What God's word is saying here is for believers who believes "Jesus is Lord" in their hearts not those saying it publicly like the demons are hypocritically doing! Luke 4:41 ‘This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshipping me, for they teach commands of men as doctrines.’” Matthew 15:8-9 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Many will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness! Matthew 7:21-23 “Why, then, do you call me ‘Lord! Lord!’ but do not do the things I say?" Luke 6:46 So don't be deceived my friend God's word in what you quoted is referring to those who are saying "Jesus is Lord" in their hearts because they will always obey whatever he says but as for many they're just mimicking what others say they don't sanctify the Christ as Lord in their hearts! Good morning! ![]() |

MaxInDHouse:Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. I just got through telling you that Catholics believe in Christ but are wrong in some doctrines. That should put your concerns to rest. Don't throw away the child with the bathing water. For as much as Catholics have doctrinal issues, that doesn't mean they don't believe in Christ. The import of my dialogue with you is not to argue who is right, but to expound the word of God using instances to edify others. So don't try to come across as knowledgeable, but come across to help other Christians with your knowledge. I see no point in that. |
| Re: A Conversation With A Catholic by MaxInDHouse(m): 7:01am On Oct 21, 2024 |
ocnovakmichael:Well there are many religions claiming they're Christians simply because they worship in the name of Jesus but they don't know God's will which they must do that is why Jesus said people practicing such religion will not enter into the kingdom of God. Matthew 7:21-23 So if you say a religion believe in Jesus but the members don't know the teachings of Jesus then in what sense can they believe in what they don't know? Romans 10:2-3 For your information no local religions haven't heard of that name Jesus and as long as many keep shouting that name as if it will bring them good luck millions are looking for ways to get connected to that name that's why many religions are claiming they believe in Jesus whereas they know almost nothing about Jesus of Nazareth. I'm not here to argue with you either my concern is how much you are worried about your friends and families born into the Catholic Church. If the Catholics Church belongs to Christ how do you think Jesus will leave billions of people without directing those taking the lead to the stream of living water {John 4:10} so that the whole vatican is left in spiritual darkness while you here on Nairaland will be the one to guide members of a religion having billions of members? Well the truth is that the Catholic Church is not for Christ and if you care to know why i will use the scriptures to enlighten you. Good morning! |
