Please is there anywhere in the world they spell out penalty for not turning in to vote? Because civic responsibility or engagement is not by compulsion. Is akin to joining association and association is not by force.
To me, Shehu Sani misfired in this.
How would someone be fined for not voting? Until someone direct me to a country that melt out punishment to her citizens that refused to vote and the same law that support that. That will be tantamount to infringement to people's right.
Besides, he should have made suggestion instead on electoral fraud, election riggers, election manipulators, thugs and touts destructing elections, instead of this anti people or anti human right suggestion.
The nation should deal with the above people first before anyone can even think of this impossible task.
They should do the needful on the above and all shortcomings on the election will vanish.

Shehu Sani is like Falana, or Sowore. Being a social activist does not equate to having sensible ideas on running the country. The three of them perform their roles as opposition but their solutions are usually devoid of rational thinking.

One reason many do not vote is because the candidates do not inspire the citizens. How does he propose the fines are enforced? How much will it cost to enforce the fines? How much compliance will be achieved after awarding contracts to private firms to enforce the fines because clearly the police/law enforcement agencies that can’t enforce simple laws in existence cannot be the ones to enforce the fines. Is it agencies that cannot prevent smuggling of petrol in tankers or importation of guns or simple traffic laws that will enforce 100m voters who refused to vote?

Will you guarantee their safety at the polling units? Voter stands?

Hmmmm, it's not by force to vote, if our politicians are doing what is right, it will make the citizens to vote, but they are not doing what is right and after the election the result will still be rigged.

What made Obi win general election in Lagos and some states apart from the South East? Why do you think louts threaten people not to come out to vote? Voting in a citizen's right. There's no where in the constitution where citizens are punished for not going out to vote. No country does that. Also, leave the Obidient movement and face the government. During the elections, they brought out their money and resources to campaign for the candidate they believe will take Nigeria to the right direction. They also have the right to counter people's opinion.
