The street I correctly live in is nothing to write home about, almost everyday cases are judged, somebody is been flogged with cane, the orders are passed by the streetcommunit youth chairman and the rest. They judge matter on a daily basis, neighbors quarrel, yahoo yahoo, percentage sharing and the rest takes sides and if you are not financially strong or know someone among them. You go hear am that day... and after that you will be taxed to bring money to settle the issue and drink for them. After enough flogging. It has become so normal and I am wondering if it's in the constitution that citizens can discipline anytime by appointed community leaders at their freewill. Please I need answers Nlfpmod |

This is what happens to uneducated fools. The intelligent will go pick up the freely available Constitution of Nigeria to see if it is written in there that some community leader can flog them, while the illiterate idiots will go and buy drink for their floggers. Op, do you think the doctors and lawyers and teachers in your community get flogged too? In fact, where is this your community called? |

Some interior part of Nigeria are not govern by the Nigeria government but by people described by the OP. All you need to do is to be very careful there, make sure you don't pass your boundary. Where there is no Police station, the community elders must constitute their own ways of policing. Even in some community, before police can arrest, they will first go and report to the community elders. |

You edited your write up. You make it look like you are living in a remote area. If your story is real, mention the area, local government and state. I am sure the appropriate bodies will enter the matter. Don't forget to mention the police stations names too. Peter532: |

madridguy:You mean I imputed elders then removed it? My friend you just one of those people who just jump on every topic without reading to know what it says. And it's so annoying. I can't mention where I live, I don't want to enter wahalla People who knows what I am saying understand |

madridguy:Community leaders know their level! They may pass law on peasants but know to bow to the lords in their community. Or do you think those community leaders will flog their own members or the teachers and pastor and imams who break the law? I bet you women never win cases brought before those community leaders unless their husband has status. And the gods help them if they dare accuse their husband of law breaking. |

Baba, nothing to talk about again. Since the OP said he cannot mention where what he narrated is happening so no point arguing about it. budaatum: |

Does it work? |
| Re: Do Community Chairman Have The Right To Discipline Citizens? by budaatum: 5:33pm On Sep 16, 2024 |
madridguy:No one is arguing with you. Op stated his point and asked for answers, and not for arguments, or solutions, in fact. Hopefully, he's smart enough not to let stupid ignorant community hoodlums flog him. Would be interesting to know where this is though, and how widespread it is. For I know for a fact that traditional justice is dished out to some in enlightened communities, just as Sharia law can apply to some in Lagos. |

I don't know the community the OP is from, but my judgement is based on what is common in most areas. There is no community youth without community elders. I believe those guys are acting on directives of the elders and I can bet you, if police arrest the youth chairman today you see the elders behind him. budaatum: |

madridguy:It is not "common in most areas" that "street community youth chairman and the rest" are the law of a community. Some people may subject themselves to such laws, but you wouldn't find an educated person who knows the Constitution subjecting themselves to the law of community youth chairman unless they've received an undeserved favourable judgement they might not have received in a normal court. The fact op mentioned whipping made me think of hisbah police in Kano or some similar community, and it would only apply to those who subject themselves to such law, as I can't imagine a non-local indigene accepting a whipping by community leaders anywhere. Just imagine area boys passing whipping judgement somewhere in Lagos or Aba, and you might see how absurdly ridiculous it is. To me, it as ridiculous as accepting to being doused in petrol and having a tyre put round ones neck then set alight. Most, or a significant some, would call it jungle justice in derision. |

Peter532:Lay low so that you don’t get hurt for the time being. Then move as soon as you can and fight them from outside. As long as the rest of the community is falling in line and letting them do that, you might not have any allies to fight them with you. So secure your safety first and then expose as much as them as you can |
