Okay, let him reduce fuel price to N65 and pay subsidy of 920 per liter....till all our budget goes on subsidy, and we are using loans for everything else...till IMF decides that they should stop pampering us, and removes the loan cover...

Then the real shege starts.
How was Jonathan doing it that time that Tinubu and Buhari protested and got him out of power?

You think we have forgotten? Nigeria didn't start under Tinubu and Buhari.

There must be a way to defend total exploitation coming from a capitalist government.

OECD do this because they are in the process of diversifying from fossil fuels and already have access to a variety of alternative sources. This information only serves to highlight the need for subsidy in countries like Nigeria that don't even have reliable power grids and virtually every kW of energy they consume comes from crude oil

Chai! Nigerians and sentiments.... Nigeria will never get it together unless it is returned to regionalism type of govt. If every region can control their resources and reduce the power at the centre, we won't be having this type of comment so soon. So u now believe subsidy has effect on the economy and needed to be removed but Jonathan wanted to remove same when it was even easier and cheaper and was nearly crucified. All of a sudden u guys now believed in subsidy removal with sweet analysis

Why did Jona increase fuel prices from 65 to 97 naira?

It was the why that made me support subsidy removal

Tinubu and buhari were talking garbage back then

nairalanda1:
It's quite simple. Government stops setting price through NNPC, and lets the marketers set the price instead.

Simple and short.

Fuel is not cheap. Even at N1000, it isn't.

Time to face realities, boys.
How did Jonathan managed to keep it at 65 naira?

Tinubu should do something about this
Some Experts in Nigeria believed that the Federal Govt is actually behind and you can see how they are not forthcoming but has been silent since this Price War.
You now wander if everything should be Taxed in Nigeria.
Then what has Ordinary Citizens benefited?
Even in USA,that they are Coping,Food , electricity, etc are highly Subsidiesed. As at today, most Nigerians are just Pre- occupied with the Foodstuffs,as many are not balanced - No Jobs,No Excess to Invest, other than get Food 🥝🥑 Yam,Rice 🌾,Palm 🪔,etc- are just too exobitant! 🥪 Bread is no longer for the poor but why?
The same Poor the Politicians would come during electioneer Campaigns that they want to do this, that!

He did not,he wanted to increase it to 140 naira because in 2011 we spent three times what we spent in 2010 ok the same subsidy.

It was the ojota crowd that forced him to go back to 97

And as you know, GEJ was right,.ojota and tinubu and buhari were wrong then.

Person who said he supported Buhari for 8 years so that he can become president...

You people are funny, Tinubu is doing what he came to do, I'm surprised you people are surprised...

My question is what were you people thinking?
The country economy is doing better than when Buhari was the President.
Then printing of Naira was a normal thing.
Then 1.5 billion USD was used monthly to artificially keep the USD down at 700 .
Then government was using 97 percent of revenue to offset debt. This has gone down to 68 percent.
States have more money compared to before
.
Fact check me

And yet Tinubu has taken almost 5 billion dollar loan in just 1 year, while the naira is depreciating and inflation is going up, what is there to fact check?

Calm down.

Next, it is sold at the price the seller wants, and buyers have a choice whether to buy or not.

We will have to ensure there is no prize fixing of course, and that sellers don't collude to set prices, which, considering iya loja setting gari price in the market might not be so easy, but its still the way to go.

And before you ask, yes, it will be more expensive than it currently is, just as free market has made the dollar dearer.
And what happens when people are not able to afford it?

I don't know if those people on the first page are just gaslighting or they are serious. Is it reading or comprehension problems, the article clearly stated that TAXATION is one of the major determinants of prices.

Taxes in some countries is as high as 50% of the cost and some people are trying to deflect this by spewing trash.

The government is just taxing us to death plain simple.
