I think it's too early for succession talk. It's not yet a year for the current governors to be thinking of who would succeed them.

You are thinking like a layman.
Succession talks never ends.
It continues from one election cycle to the other.
This is because any candidate who pauses their campaign would lose out.

You mean none comes from Lagos Island?

What many do not know is that the so-called owners of Lagos are the returned slaves. However many of these people were not captured and slave traded from Lagos and are not Indigenous to Lagos. Let me give you one example.

You cannot be more Lagosian than the McGregor family. However, one of this family's members is now a first-class Oba in Ilawo in Ogun state. What happened? He traced his ancestry back to where his ancestors lived before being captured and given anglicized names. Another example is Sarah Forbes Bonetta, who was presented to Queen Victoria after her capture and eventually adopted as her Goddaughter. But her maiden name before capture was Aina and she was originally from Egbado and not Lagos.

The indigenous dwellers of Lagos are the Aworis.

Finally, Lagos state itself was created by adding parts of the Western region including Ikeja, Maryland, etc to the former Lagos Colony. So the idea that Yorubas must be islanders to be indigenous is incorrect.

The National Archives are there for anyone who wants to do a deeper analysis of the subject. Looking through the records it can be seen that the number of Yorubas who can claim Lagos as indigene is much wider than the returnee slaves who it must be said are also entitled to claim Lagos ( even if not originally from there) by reason of Yoruba antiquity.

You guys just open your mouth to speak

If someone from Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Ijebu, Egba, Awori rule lagos, they are all indigenes.

Their forefathers founded what is now called Lagos state today.

I will go for Femi Gbajagbamila.
He is a Muslim and have a wide experience.
It will be hard for another Christian to take over from Sanwolo in Lagos State.
Abbas is a glorified illiterate. He is just an opportunist.
A man who said he is a lawyer, but his name was not found in the Supreme court as a lawyer called to the bar.
How they managed to settle that scandal is what I still can't figure out.

Looking through the records it can be seen that the number of Yorubas who can claim Lagos as indigene is much wider than the returnee slaves who it must be said are also entitled to claim Lagos ( even if not originally from there) by reason of Yoruba antiquity.
If we are looking at Lagos Island (Isale Eko), or the totality of Lagos (Eko) with appendages like Obalende, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Apapa, Oyingbo, Ebute Metta, etc, then even the Yoruba slave returnees from outside Africa or camped in Sierra Leone, still met native Yorubas with native names.

So those returnees are only a discussion as later citizens of the parts of Lagos that they settled in.

It would be wrong to think an English, Portuguese or Spanish surname confer any originality to Lagos origin of the bearer. Rather it confirms their status as later indigenes of Lagos(Eko), behind the originality of the Awori native indigenes and the aristocratic Benin-Yoruba ruling class of Lagos (Eko).

The broader Lagos State as you rightly said, was part of Western region, and dominated by Ijebu, same Awori, Egba, and the non-Yoruba Egun tribe.

The Yoruba subgroups in Lagos State plus the non-Yoruba Egun, are the very same tribal constituent of Ogun state.

Awori, Ijebu, Egba, Egun.

Only Egbado (Yewa) is native to Ogun State and not native to Lagos State. But I won't count it out too.

The only thing Tinubu knows how to play is politics. He doesn't know how to do good Govornace. But when it comes to politics, kindly give it to him so definitely it is going to be a Muslim after christians have done three terms

Finished Ambode's term and done another two terms.

So either Muri Okunola or Femi Hamzat.

May the Universe spare our lives
