Why Do Siblings See Themselves As A Competition? by adaperry25(op): 10:55am On Sep 21, 2024
Might be a long thread
My younger brother sees me as a competition or foe.

I know it might sound weird but it's reality most families face. Thank God for my late dad who made sure we all read professional courses so we can be independent and comfortable.

After his undergraduate studies, my brother stayed with me for 2 years and I endured the worst I can get from a brother. Tho I feel it's not just him. I have a feeling my sister and uncle might be involved in the conspiracy. The deal might be to eliminate me as the first son so he can take over. Sounds surprising ? But I've had many pointers to this.

My uncle once told me after my dad's death that I'll be facing war soon. This was after I told him in confidence my issues with my siblings how they don't listen to my advice and always feel they know too much. At the end, what I warned about will still happen. They did this to my dad before he passed away.

Even little house chores that I'll send him, he will do it reluctantly. Sometimes, he will be playing music indirectly at me mockingly or making calls saying I think I know it all. I have called him privately to know if I did anything wrong and he said I did nothing that he doesn't have any issues with me.

I've even posted on our family group for anyone to voice out their grievance and till date, no one has come up to say anything. But their actions speak otherwise.

The only persons who understands my problems are my mom and our last born.

My younger sister had a wedding and since I was staying kinda close with my brother, I expected him to come over so we'd plan the wedding together but for over one year he relocated to my location, he hasn't visited me for once.

I will ask and hed say he's occupied with work .

There are many I can't say here but it's been of great concern .

I feel my family is divided.

Need your advice.

Copied.

Envy
Re: Why Do Siblings See Themselves As A Competition? by immortalcrown(m):
1.
Don't just say "siblings", say, "some siblings". I and my siblings do not see one another as competitors.

2.
Whoever is envious of his or her sibling cannot be different to outsiders. Whoever is not envious of outsiders cannot be different to insiders. So, your siblings, if truly they are envious of you, are not good to outsiders.

3.
I blame parents when their ill-mannered children are kids or teenagers, not when those children become adults. Many people, when they grow up, go against their parental guidance. Therefore, parents should not be blamed for an adult's misconduct.

I've not directly experienced this in my family.

In your family issue,i think it's majorly parental upbringing...
Their might be external forces or selfish desires.. But trust me, it goes along way with how you guys were being brought up.

A quick advice: stay away from home for now,and be in the lives of those that respects you. It's best you build your own empire..

OK bye..

Parents, really, do tend to create a competitive environment for their children at times. My ma tried it with me and my siblings, but I've always been aware not to compete with them because to win I could just make them fail, which would be a very stupid thing to do indeed. That's not to say some of them weren't competing.

It's my immediate younger sisters birthday soon, where I keep my tradition of visiting her at home. 20 years now I've been going, only missing a couple when I worked abroad, and she's competing much less eventually.

I call my siblings my stars. Their bright light makes me shine much better, so its in my interest to make them bright so I can be much brighter.

Envy, jealousy and intolerance have ruined family bond.

Siblings only grow up perceiving themselves as competetion if and only if the parents do not do a good job teaching them otherwise. undecided
