Pegging the exchange rate below the official rate will take us back to the multiple exchange rate regime that we complained about during the Buhari administration. Can we stabilize Damgote’s supply first and then use the forex savings to bring down the exchange rate generally? If at all they want to peg or hedge the rate, it should be like a monthly thing and it shouldn’t be too far away from the market rate so as not to lead to abuse. |

Nigeria can afford to sell petrol to her citizens even lower. But the problem is that of those who smuggle the products to neighbouring countries to make money. |

Islie:Everything about these people is lie. Association this and that. In a country where it is believed that the whole petrol is imported, some are beginning to come and call themselves crude refiners, no duty paid, no nothing and still they'll be among those selling for 1300 per litre. Imagine subsidizing naira by more than 600 per litre and the effect will be to reduce petrol to 600 from 950? Nigeria is not ready for a change. |

Islie:Dangote refinery is a business venture owned by a private individual who is out to make profit. The employees (expatriates) collect salaries running into thousands of dollars in their offshore accounts. Explain to me how the international factors wouldn't determine the prices? I do not understand the level of ignorance among Nigerian populace. I believe we have a lot of graduates across all disciplines. Dangote is not our saviour, we need to get our refineries working. Moreso, oil is no more that profitable because the world is going for alternative sources of energies. |

The Dangote refinery price is just a reflection of what the international price is, less the cost of freighting. The NNPC was buying the product at N300 less; they’re paying N300 more for the product they were importing than what they are buying from Dangote at N889. So, those who are expecting the Dangote price to be lower than what the NNPC are charging should be realistic. The price will be lower once local refinery started fully |
