The government had used every trick available to them to hold him behind and almost got to the end of the rope before this his request. This request means that Chief Justice will need to reassign this case to another judge. How long this will take cant be determined.
The Nigeria Government will encourage available judges to always recuse themselves from handling the case. This will at the long run have Nnamdi Kanu behind bar as long as possible.
Methinks he by himself played into a trap they had long laid for him. No wonder the Justice Nyanko without demur immediately accepted Kanu"s request. She knew the aim of the government and the implication of Kanu's request.

The only path to freedom for Kanu is through a presidential pardon which only a sitting Southern Presidency can even consider granting one.

Tinubu being the astute deal breaking politician that he is remains the only President that can grant Kanu a pardon .

But for a pardon to be granted , there must be a conviction. If Kanu or his supporters think Tinubu can interfere with an ongoing criminal court case they are delusional .

If Kanu like, let him drag the case until a northerner takes over from Tinubu .

If they like they can spite the Yorubas by voting an Aboki so Tinubu will not be in Aso Rock come May 29, 2027. That will only see Kanu's fate finally sealed with a conviction. And before Kanu will see a pardon, a southern president must succede the Aboki they want to replace Tinubu with.

The best bet for Kanu is to ride the judiciary storm, accept a conviction and apply to Tinubu for a pardon. Tinubu will be willing to grant one if he sees it will get SE to vote for him.

Now that's Kanu's best bet.
