Thanks bro, much appreciated.
When I checked online for the error code P0756, it showed the sensor inside the tranny...
Oh its that one? shocked

Then you have to open it up and change or clean it out soonest. It's not a big job for a mechanic who works gearbox to do.

You have a parasitic drain. Get a multimeter that measures at least 10 amps and watch videos on how to pull fuses till you get below 0.05amps from the multimeter and trace what the fuse supplies in your car. It's fun and I did mine in less than 30 mins.
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by daylay7(m): 9:15pm On Sep 21, 2024
how do we clean it without removing it?
luvinhubby:
Check your power steering oil containers, it's often neglected by car owners & technicians. When dirty, it pushes dirt into the pump causing damage and failure.
More tips coming.

Thanks man, you've been very very helpful. I don't know why I smiled while reading bolded.

I'll read more on the pcv valve.
Also look out for a small oil catch can there too and clean it as well.

If your mechanic still uses a spanner to check for the magnetic pull on the alternator and not a multimeter to check if it's charging, then I'm afraid you might need to try another mechanic.

Thanks. Please, what name should I mention to my mechanic so he can help clean or change it.

I'm sure he doesn't know what PC valve means.

You can get a multimeter yourself. A cheap multimeter of below ₦8000 can do the job so far it has amps measurement. You don't need anyone's help. I don't stay in ibadan or know anyone there. Attached is the video I used for mine and it was almost similiar cause for the parasitic drain. If you have a car tracker, then expect the 0.05 amps to be about 0.09 to 0.1a as normal for you. Anything above that is probably a parasitic drain.

Your PCV looks like this and is located under your alternator.
Trace the black hose that comes from there to the intake manifold, you'd see it.

Hello pls I need your help. My Honda civic 2008 speedometer board goes blank intermittently. When I start the car in the morning it works fine. But as soon as I turn off the engine to turn it off again it goes dark. Only the trafficator works.

I suspect the speedometer console is bad or having partial contact. Kindly get a rewire to check it out and see if it's repairable or needs a total replacement.

I leave the floor to the elders to give their professional inputs.

1.What is year is the Honda Civic?
2. Are you using the recommended oil?
3. Is the vehicle tokunbo or naija used ? If na naija use what is previous oil the owner was using

4. Do you do mostly highway or city driving?

Over all Honda Civic have tough engine and they can tolerate engine abuse ( it does not mean say make you abuse the car )

Me for example I drive a 2011 G25X.. And I use Mobil 1 5w30. 85% of my driving is high way and I change my oil close to every 10k miles..

But if na city driving I will likely change am every 5k miles... City driving stresses the engine coz of the stop and go . And your brake will chop beating

2007, i’m not using d recommended oil, i am using the oil the previous owner (nigerian used) was using - total classic sae-40.

I do mostly city driving, and I last changed the oil in June.

stop using that total variant, it is not meant for vehicle engines please. Also your change interval is very high, with the oil you are using and your change interval, your engine would already be filled with sludge which will reduce the life span drastically.

buy Total quartz 5000 (20w50) or Mobil Xhp (20w50) and only use these oils for either 3 months or 3000km which ever comes first, if you stick to these maintenance interval, the sludge in your engine would reduce if it has sludge already.

The oil you are using is too thick and you are over working the oil pump. And in the process you are burning more fuel....
You will need to change the oil more frequently because you are not using full synthetic oil. You will need to change oil every 3k miles.

Failure to do so will result in sludge.. I will not be surprise if there is sludge in the engine already.

Using the recommended oil is too late in my opinion because of the abuse of the previous owner and continuous abuse of the current owner..

I don't think giving any solution will rectify any damage now . Maybe using the full synthetic oil will only clean the sludge out . But you will need a mechanic to open up the engine to see if there is any amount of sludge.

After all said and done the engine is living on a borrowed time

Yes you can still use any of the two.. It is less thicker than the sae40 . And you still be burning more fuel and over working the oil pump...

The only advantage you have is time .. It will give you a little more time before the engine packs up .. And also you still need to change the oil every 3k miles.....

Pic 1.Below is how your engine should look, if you are following owners manual and changing oil frequently

Pic. 2. This is more than likely how your engine might be

Interesting. Thanks.

Lets say i want to switch to the recommended oil which is SAE OW-20 or 5W-20, can i still do it and will there be any side effects?
