That boy is far more intelligent than you. You very likely bought your educational certificates to have missed the very very obvious.

With 3rd class he can get a PGD, MSc and PHD. And still be the boss to a first class student.

In a world where people are always looking for an easy way out, he chose to remain steadfast to a course.
He probably loves Physics which many science students know is not so easy.
He could have been doing other things while he stayed on it, we never can tell; for those saying he could have started a business.

He could have changed the course of study to some probably lighter or easier one, but chose to see this to the end.

I graduated with third class in physics too, many physics end up with third class, what is wonderful in this guys case is that its extremely hard getting a third class after spending extra year in school not to talk of extra 4 years. He did well!
