Odunayaw, GreenandGold, you guys were somewhat disparaging of my musical inclinations: the University of Cape Town (UCT), my alma mater- academically top in Africa and the Middle East and in the top 150 universities globally, has one of the top 50 jazz and opera schools universally.
And one of the best university performances of "Suor Angelica" - if one excuses the coughs and other audience sounds.

Sopranos, tenors and bassos from the UCT Music School are doing the Republic proud on the world's music stage from La Scala to the Met.

I know this thread is about military photos and videos, but we in southern Africa have always included arts, dance, etc in our revolutions because we are different from the rest of the continent!

For my Angolan, Caboverdian, Mozambiquan, Sao Tomense and Guinan compañeros (Hola Palope!) cousins, a year later, we still miss Sara Tavares.

Yeah, something like this soothes the African soul. Maybe Jazz. But Opera? Our ancestors will smite their ribs in the grave, ugh! grin

They are not there to restore Haiti. They're there to protect the government. US brokered foreign troops because they want to prevent Haiti from falling under an unfriendly (potentially autocratic leader). It was a matter of time with the gang coalition and even the police itself. US acted quickly by changing the leader, to restore confidence, and forming an international group to protect the government.

Foreign forces are the best counter measure against coups because local forces will eventually give in to political interests.

US will always meddle inside Haiti's politics to make sure a friendly guy is always in power. Haiti is so close to the US that everything will be done to prevent a China/Russia guy heading the country.

GreenandGold, what fuckery is this:

"Spring snow" is now a thing? I have a week-long mountain hike scheduled for October in the Eastern Cape, and I really don't want to postpone.
It seems like your Eastern Cape hike is going to be postponed... It's not slowing down.

It's madness, supposed to be spring and we still have snow! Still aiming for the 3rd week of October, otherwise it gets too hot after that.
At least the snow won't affect this afternoon's rugby in your town. We really should have wrapped up the Rugby Championship in Argentina last week, but fine, we've never lost in Mbombela.

BTW, what's the acceptable time to start on the beer on a Rugger Saturday like this? grin grin grin

The Deputy Commander Kenya Army (D/COMD), Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, presided over the closing ceremony of the Army Unit Small Team Training (AUSTT), held in Samburu County on 25 September 2024.

The training concluded successfully, with troops demonstrating proficiency in a range of areas including tactical and technical skills, personal and special weapons handling, close-quarter combat, hostage rescue, patrols, small unit tactics, and range work.

Seems like there is a shift from western small arms to Russian supplied small arms in the Kenyan military. I see a lot of pictures with AKs than with M4s. Is there some kind of shift. Will we be seeing T-series tanks and SUs in Kenyan camo?

Most recruits are started off with this weird-looking rifle I don't know the name, before moving to AK then G3 then the other rifles the likes of M4 and SCAR etc.
Some units stick with the AK for supply and logistics reasons but there is not inherent shift. At least non that I have seen.

Are you sure that AK bullet has more stopping power than NATO caliber?

The lesson here is; soldiers need to spend a lot of time learning how to shoot with a rifle they'll never use in combat grin

from kenyas experience in somalia, soldiers have had to grab any weapon available even off enemies during suicide human wave attacks,
they also dont produce their own rifles only ammo and if theres a supplychain issue or disruption for any type of weapon its easier to switch rifles because soldiers are trained.

It seems like it's a KDF supply chain problem, not a common one.... Regular soldiers will less likely to face such issues (at least down here)... Special Forces are the ones who are expected to face such challenges because of the obvious reasons, they're already trained for such situations.
