Ok still on your analogy.. Abia North is made of who and who? Abia South is predominately Ngwas Abia Central is Ngwa and Umuahia, right? If Umuahia people have ruled is it not Logical for someone of the other divide to rule to balance the equation? Don't you think is greed that will make someone from Abia North to rule/ have stake more in the state than those whom you believe are in the majority? What justifies that? You said we should leave history of Abia out of this, then what's the essence of living. If not from history, where did you get the notion that Ngwa people are more clannish than your people? Did politics just started off oblivion? These your subsumed colonial creation are they not in existence? Even in the fourth Republic where majority votes is important, why promote power rotation? JuicyEarth:As far as Aba remains in Abia state we have no problems in developing it.What is wrong in one developing his state? Aside from Aba what else does an Ngwa man have? Our villages can never be compared with villages in Ngwaland. The oil and gas is found in Ukwa west which is Ndoki land. |

At this point I will stop engaging you but refer you to BIR ask them what each Local Government contribute as revenue to the state, move to Ministry of Lands and Housing abd ask what the Ngwa region have to offer to the state. Did you just ask, "Aside from Aba what else does an Ngwa man have?" Bro you are talking with someone who is in the known about happenings in your state. Which part of Ngwaland is comparable to development, table land and security to Bende, Isiukwuato, Umunneochi and Ohafia axis of your state? Calm bro, make I no go give others wetin to use attack Abia later. Ojiofor: |

JuicyEarth:Where did I say you should forget history?Read well before you reply. Look Abia central is partly Ngwa and partly Umuahia, so you want to be rotating power between Abia central and Abia south? Ochendo who is from Abia central handed over to Abia south in the spirit of power rotation and Abia south at the end of their tenure supposed to return power to Abia north where it started but rather Ikpeazu schemed to return it back to Abia central leaving Abia north behind. We are not in colonial time any more you have to embrace reality. There are communities which was under Bende division that are found in Cross Rivers and Ebonyi state today. And there communities in Aba division found in Imo state and River state today, shall we invite then to come and take their turn?how can we be talking about division in this era? Let me tell you that without power rotation Abia south will find it very difficult to win governorship election in Abia state, you can take this to the bank.It is in favour of Abia south and nde Ngwa to rest that gentleman's agreement. |

Ojiofor:Which of Your village. How I wish every LGA in Abia state will be asked to start generating money to pay their workers. You guys always hide under Abiriba to claim what you are not. You have got nothing in your rural LGA. You made mention of oil, well Abia has not invested much in oil exploration. Searching for black gold (crude oil) in your zone is equivalent to searching for oil in Sambisa forest. |

Ojiofor:I have been to Ihechiowa in Arochukwu, they don't even have good soil for cultivation. Which Bende, is it Mkpa, or Alayi ? Mkpa very poor. Or do you want to hide under Igbere that was built by OUK. You guys got nothing. Apart from Abiriba nothing is in Abia north. The evidence is clear. Just empty noise making. Split the state let know who is who. Paras1te |

OnoVegasBlog:Nkpa is better than any village in rural Ngwa land. They also have a very good fertile expanse of land for farming and they are called the land of professors for a reason. The current APC Abia state chairman Dr Ononogbu is from there and secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Emma Ugboaja too and many others.Nobody is splitting Abia state of 17 LGAs only while Imo state have 27 LGAs it is not possible so stop day dreaming.God bless the God's own state! You want to split Abia state because Ngwa sponsored PDP candidate failed in last election ![]() Alex Otti is Ngwa man too after his 8 years that will be 16 good years of uninterupted nde Ngwa rule and hopefully power will return to Abia north at the end of Alex Otti's tenure .Kponkponkon chegharia inu. ![]() |

I believe we easterners are not hypocrites. Most importantly we want Abia splitted because we felt your region needs real development and modernization. Aba will forever remain part of Abia state. You want to run away from competition and corner Ukwa people and turn them into your slaves. No responsible Igbo leader will support Aba state creation. |

In the event that Aba, representing Abia South and the southern part of Abia Central, secedes from the current Abia State, the longstanding unity within Abia North will be severely tested. For years, this unity has been more a product of collective resentment towards Aba, than any true cohesion. The shared envy of Aba’s economic power has been the glue preventing these northern factions from turning against one another. However, with Aba removed from the equation, the underlying tensions within Abia North will be exposed. The Ohafia warriors, with their proud tradition of military might, will likely resist any attempt to make Umuahia the capital, seeing it as a symbol of political overreach. At the same time, the influential Arochukwu, with their mystical heritage and strategic past, may lay claim to the capital, seeking to assert their dominance over the new political landscape. What has kept these groups from outright conflict until now has been their shared disdain for Aba, but with that common adversary gone, their unity will begin to unravel. The absence of Aba as the focal point of their collective envy will allow long-suppressed rivalries to come to the fore, shaking the very foundation of Abia North’s alliance. The once delicate balance of power, held together by their opposition to Ngwa dominance, will likely collapse into internal discord, leaving the region vulnerable to fragmentation and political infighting. Oh, I forgot to include Bende (the butterfly 🦋 who thought it's a bird. |

waternogetemeny:By culture, traditions and dialect, Owerri is purely related to Ikwerre in Rivers state, but no relationship (except Igbo language) with any community either in Okigwe or in Orlu zones in Imo state. Guess why Owerri fought tooth and nail during military govts and got nearly all government establishments in Imo state located in Owerri zone; and that led to many new urban towns in Owerri zone; but dwindling cities in Orlu and Okigwe with no government establishment. |

It’s funny how we are still having the same discussion after 100 years. I guess it really is true that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. In any case, I will save my historical analysis of state creation and the Aba State Movement for another thread and simply focus on the cultural/anthropological question for which I was explicitly tagged. waternogetemeny:The details are nuanced, so I will try to simplify it. Uratta is related to Ohaji and Echie. The primogenitors, Akuru, Ochie, Okani, are supposedly related as brothers. Either that or the names may refer to the same person according to some traditions. In other words, the same autochthonous population. Ohaji and Echie are related to Ikwerre. The primogenitor, Ochichi, is said to have hailed from Ozuzu. This suggests Echie movements made it to Ikwerre before Ohaji movements pushed south and merged with them to create the core Elele population. Ngwa is related to Echie. The primogenitors of most Echie village-groups come from the Ngwa cultural complex (a.k.a. Ngwa and Mbaise) predominantly and secondarily from later waves of Uratta and Isu. This is why Echie dialect shows more affinity with the Ngwa than with Uratta despite the Akuru, Ochie, Okani oral traditions. Ngwa is related to Ikwerre. The primogenitors Ochichi and Iwhnurnuohna are said to be father and son. In Ngwa oral tradition, Iwhnurnuohna is known as Iwhnerneohna. Iwhnerneohna was a population movement of Ngwa people from within Ozuzu to found and people villages in Elele and Isiokpo. The father/son tradition might explain Echie/Ohaji elements arriving earlier (Ochichi) followed by Ngwa elements (Iwhnerneohna). A later wave of Ngwa elements founded Obio (the core community within P.H. and surrounding villages). |

ChinenyeN:It is funny how one group have oral traditions for another group Do Ikwerre have this oral tradition for themselves Do any other group have their own oral tradition for where Ngwa came from and would Ngwa people accept that. This subtle imperialism is risible There is no reputable Ikwerre man that claims he is of Ngwa origin Your explanation of dialect to primogenitor is silly We speak English today does not mean we have English ancestors The slave trade occurred for centuries in a tiny space and the majority of slave sold from those shores were Igbo It was not a space that was at peace to enable the kind of conjecture you propose Large numbers of people were coming and going mixing and shuffling to such an extent that it is impossible to make meaning assertions about origin from your superficial reading of contemporary observations in dialect. Ikwerre are related to Ngwa to the extent that Ngwa slaves passed through there and settled there in numbers after the slave trade ended |

Gajagojo:Ikwerre did not fall from the sky. Forget all this oil politics, ikwerre are not from Bini, their kith and kin are in Imo state,, the Ohaji people and very much Igbo. Goes to show how they can be one thing and claim another. All those clan around Ikwerre are their relatives, i suspect it goes all the way to Owerri. |

OnoVegasBlog:That's a fine proposition as long as the mono state gets all its entitlements in multiples of a factor of six and everything else is properly weighted against its pluralistic peers. The savings in 5 governors and government houses alone will be staggering. Money that will go directly into development. This model, even to a lesser extent, should be advocated for the entire country. It is called regionalism. |
| Re: State Creation In South East: Aba State by ChinenyeN(m): 9:33am On Mar 04, 2025 |
waternogatenemy:This will be a somewhat oversimplified explanation but… Mbaise is canonically considered to be made up of five clans. In no particular order, they are Ezinihitte, Ahiara, Okeuvuru, Ekwereazu and Agbaja. Ahiara, Ezinihitte and Isiala Ngwa are originally the same autochthonous group referred to as mfulala in the local parlance. Ekwereazu also claims autochthony while simultaneously having oral tradition that links Ihitte Aforukwu and Obohia to Obizi in Ezinihitte. This suggests the original settlers of Ekwereazu were of Ezinihitte stock before a later arrival of Isu people brought Isu cultural influence into Ekwereazu axis. Agbaja is actually not a clan, but an amalgam of three clans, being Enyiogwugwu, Nguru and Okwuato. Of these three, Nguru and Okwuato are basically part of Ezinihitte clan. Nguru sister clan is Onicha in Ezinihitte while Okwuato villages either claim descent from Oboama/Umunama or claim autochothony. Both Ezinihitte and Okwuato confirm they are the same people. Enyiogwugwu is the only one that maintains two traditions. One which confirms migration from Uratta area and another which is shared with Nguru that claims Enyiogwugwu be “junior brother” to Nguru. This “junior brother” could suggest that Nguru villages extended into parts of Enyiogwugwu before Uratta elements migrated into the area at a later date. Long story short, most of Agbaja clan is of Ezinihitte stock and Enyiogwugwu is where Ezinihitte and Uratta converged. Okeuvuru claims autochthony as well, but nearly all villages in Oke claim descent from Oboama/Umunama in Ezinihitte, making them predominantly of Ezinihitte stock. Long story short, Mbaise is basically the border where Ngwa cultural complex, Uratta cultural complex and Isu cultural complex converge. Analyzing the cultural influence and oral traditions, however, shows Mbaise is overwhelmingly related to Ngwa. But you can see the Uratta cultural influence notably in Enyiogwugwu and Nguru. And the Isu cultural influence in Ekwereazu. |
