Perfect Electoral Process first and foremost. Even 1 year is enough for a visionary leader to make a significant impact. Let there be 2 terms, but reduced to 3 years each. Your reelection is not guaranteed after the first 3 years. Even in each of the 3 years, 1 and half years should do evaluation and assessment by the citizens to determine completion of the first 3 years or not, not to talk of 2nd term 3 years. They will all sit up. First and foremost Perfect Electoral Process. It can be achieved. |

For which president? |

Atiku could have finally played into Tinubu's hand with this letter. With this request, Tinubu could take advantage and influence the National Assembly members to approve it and make the six-year term starting from his tenure which could extend his tenure to 2029. |

lexy2014:Out of 4yrs..they only have 2yrs to perform!!.. First yr is for settling down..last yr is to plan another election for his second tenure.. Within the 2yrs he won’t be stepping on any toes so that he can secure his 2nd tenure.. Do you think if not for second tenure kyari will still be in office??.. |

lexy2014:It won't cease, but it will be shorter suffering for the people. Because this two term of 4 years is almost same as single term of 8 years. Elections in this part of the world is not free & fair, so they always rig their way into office. It is better to suffer for 6 years than 8 years. |

Akinboboz:It will never make Nigeria work, everyone will just be going there for their own selfish reasons....the best thing for us as a person is regional government. |

Frezhkid10:How is first year for settling down? What is he settling down for? Which toes is he afraid of stepping on? The politicians that have secured 2nd tenure, why are their second tenures not filled with performance of duty? How many of them used their 2nd tenure to do their jobs since they didn't need to "settle down", fear stepping on toes and work for reelection? |

jayce232:How will corruption be shorter for the people in 6years? After the shortened 6year suffering, will there be enjoyment thereafter? How is it better for Nigerians to suffer even if it's for one year? Should suffering be a part of the Nigerian experience? If you feel tenure of office reduces suffering, why don't you advocate for 1year tenure? |

Salewa97:Do you people even think about the future at all?? How can any sane human advocate for 6 years term for a Nigerian president, we are saying that 4 years is suicidal you people are talking about six years, Do you know a bad governance of six years can cause a life time destruction of a country??,The 14 years buhari and Tinubu destruction of this country, do you know millions of Destinies have been destroyed or lost for life?? A child who did not go to school for 15years does that child have any possibilities of going to school again? A child who graduated from secondary school since 2015, may be still waiting for a possible change in governance so that he or she can afford to go to university does that child have any possibilities of going to university any more since this terrible 14year??People who who support all this things should at least, use there brain for once, if possible president should serve only for 3 years, so that we will know the suffering has a limited time... |

It's the best option. This is only what can make south east rules this country. It should be rotating between 6 zone but shift between south and north after 6 years. |

Salewa97:Should he not focus on the additional requirement of 50% plus one vote for winning the presidency, apart from 25% of the votes in 2/3rd of all states? |

Well spoken. Goodluck Jonathan also proposed 6yrs single tenure and I think it's the best cos the money they spend on conducting second tenure elections and lobbying is too much, and most likely in there second tenure they turn a demi-god, serve your 6yrs single tenure and vacate office what you can't do in eight years can be achieved within six years. |

vowiski:As with everything Atiku, he is only after his own interests. Secondly to show how much of a dimwit the man is, the minimum qualification is not secondary school certificate, It is primary school and work experience. Anyone contesting for presidency has work experience so your educational qualifications are immaterial and his proposed amendment changes nothing. Finally, Educational certificates have not brought any benefit to the running of the country. If anything the educated seem to be the most confused, brain dead and out of touch people lacking in common sense in this country. A man is either intelligent or he isn’t. Atiku is ann example of the folly of using educational certificates as evidence of capability or intellect. Educational certificates are merely a test of memory on the day of the exams. Most of us here don’t even remmember the things we were tested on at the exams. My mechanic is very intelligent if you speak to him, he has no certificates. Atiku has certificates but he felt he can win an election as an opposition candidate by splitting the same opposition. That right there is evidence certificates does not equal intelligence. |

Vice Chancellors used to serve two 4-year terms, but the Federal Government later made it a single 5-year term. The same Federal Government should make political offices to last a single 5-year term. |

lexy2014:You sound as if it is my wish for Nigerians to suffer?? In a country where the most influential man can rig himself into office, do Nigerians have a choice?? Since we are already operating a system whereby the most influential gets into office, not by the peoples vote, it is still better to minimize the suffering. 1 year tenure doesn't exist anywhere, I would have advocated for it. If they the leaders can agree to a single 4 years term, the better for us. |

happney65:Are you not contradicting yourself? Tinibu is doing well. He still has second chance to contest again. He will win it because votes don't count. The Presidential election tribunal in 2023 showed that Bvas is just for a show. Just write any figure in result sheet. Is it not better that the seat be rotational. Just as Tinibu is focusing his attention on southwest, a candidate from northeast will also pay attention to his people, in that way every part of the country will have their own share. 8 years is too much. Buhari didn't do better, Tinibu is worst... |

jayce232:that still leaves my questions unanswered. 1. How will corruption be shorter for the people in 6years? 2. After the shortened 6year suffering, will there be enjoyment thereafter? .3 How is it better for Nigerians to suffer even if it's for one year? 4. Should suffering be a part of the Nigerian experience? 5. If you feel tenure of office reduces suffering, why don't you advocate for 1year tenure? |

lexy2014:What are u even saying?? Is it not better to rotate leaders than allow one person rule forever?? Every leader style of leadership will not be the same, some will be more harsh on the people than others! Do u know the relief Nigerians will feel if this govt was only one term rule for 4 years?? At least let another person step in then we try if he can make better policy? I don't understand all these nonsense questions u are asking? The shorter the term, the quicker the chances to try a new hand! |
| Re: Atiku Writes National Assembly, Seeks Six-year Term For President by jayce232: 5:46pm On Oct 01, 2024 |
Ojiofor:Exactly this is my point! Whether we like it or not, our two tenure of 4 years is almost same as single tenure of 8 years. How many governors or president rule for only 4 years as compared to those that rule 8 years. Seating president or governors always find a way to rig their way into office. Left for me a single 5 year term is better than this 8 years nonsense. |

NO. 4YEARS SINGLE TERM IS QUITE ADEQUATE. NO NIGERIAN FACTOR. |
