Okay.
This one is just to check how much light you consume. Is not the normal meter, abi?
Yeah...
So, the main metre is there, why the check metre is just to check what you personally consume, that, nobody is cheated or in this case, you're not cheated

I feel your pain op, I was going through this issues for months, landlord said he won’t be responsible for new meter if I apply, I stopped paying light bill but at the end I had to get my personal meter since meter are not movable I plan to sell it off when I leave here, and since I got my meter my neighbor hardly pays for light this shows I’ve been the one paying the most. The height of it was when they couldn’t recharge for days claiming its network meanwhile the whole street was recharging. You need to see the way this people act bossy. Express meter is 150/160 not 200 get yours.
Meter is movable, ask question well before you decide to sell it. I would have said more but it is not everything someone should say online. I only quoted you because you sound sincere

Coming from someone who can't afford to buy an empty land in an undeveloped area.

If you ever manage to build your own house , after you are done , pack you and your family and go and live in the gutters just to avoid eye contacts with your tenants... nonsense

I live with my landlord, he's an akwa ibom man... No problem , no issues ... He bought and installed meter for each flat...he fixes most of the compound stuffs like pumping machine etc with his own money...he has a lawyer who represent him in handling rent matters...

It a 3 bedroom flat in apapa, so yes , you can live with your landlord and not even know he exist if you abide by rules.
How do you arrive at the conclusion that I don't own a land🤔? Well, I'm not surprised because I know one thing is common with stark and half baked literate; hasty generalization fallacy..

This same comprehension issue is the main reason you graduated poorly from college (I could guess you graduated below 2.5). I-Too-Know when you know next to nothing!!!

Ehya, Pele... Next time, look before you leap. Be prayerful if you have to before renting or taking any step not only house.
Not all houses are good and it also depends on the kind of house you rent... Do your feasibility studies well.
I pray good landlord comes your way.
That experience taught me a lot oo, this new apartment i rented ehn! I prayed at multiple places just to be sure, make person no go from frying pan to fire.

Talk to the Landlord to apply for separate meters for each flats, you won't consume up to that amount within a month.

It wont be a horrible experience for you but ensure to create boundaries between you and your landlord, pay your dues on time and avoid unnecessary deals with them. Best is for you to even go to work and enter your house. Too much familiarity too aint too good.

It was roughly 20k plus installation kits and labour. That was 4 Months ago. The week i planned to engage the man, my landlord brought a separate prepaid meter for all the tenants.

That was how i escaped unquantifiable expenses all in the name of paying for electricity.

The pains of paying for what you don't yet you have to maintain 100% steeze. Omo na real suffering.
Thank you. I'm about renting a section of our building out so would probably install this so nobody is cheated.

If you can afford 40k bill on a month, then you can afford to get your own prepaid meter. But be aware that prepaid meters are not movable.
You're right but It can be transfered within a short distance thou risky provided u don't register with house number...
In the community I am, each houses was recently numbered, so when each of us register for meter years ago, we only use the street name...

netmillionaires:
So many things need clarification in this country. Another issue bothering me is concerning electricity connection. I built a house for my parent but electricity is yet to get to the area. My parents are staying there and have been managing the small solar installation.

Now while the electric pole is being gradually installed, The community CDA is asking the houses to make payment for the poles and the metal nepa cable that connects the poles before being allowed to connect their houses to the mains. The requested amount from each house is close to #300,000. So I have been wondering who owns the pole and its connecting lines. If it is NEPA, why then do we have to pay that much to connect our house?

Is it not the electricity companies' responsibility to bring their service to the area while the landlords pay for monthly services rendered?
The community leaders are thieves, NEPA will bring their services into a new community since they know they will charge each household that tap into their light each month on estimated Billings or by prepaid subscription. What the community does is to charge a token on each household should in case of maintenance of what NEPA installed...
When light was brought into the community I reside years ago, we were only charged 10,000 for the tapping of light into our house after the Nepa install their pole and metal cable then other monthly electricity bills followed. So where a new individual wants to tap a light into his/her house the community will go there to collect the amount set for it. The last I heard of it, it's now 20,000...

You are a dummy.

In Edo, Meters can be moved.

You just have to do transfer , like PVC.

I am seeing that in Ikeja, the policy is different.

Even if you can’t, there is always back door!
I have heard of the transfer of a thing....

My family house is facing such issue at the moment. Last year when everyone was instructed to upgrade their meter, the meter rejected the code and an official came to remove it for repair. When they took it to their office for documentation, they discovered that the meter was displaying "meter number does not exist" and as such they instructed us to go buy another new meter... There's an abandoned meter in one of the shops wic was situated right in front of the house, so we negotiated with an official who is willing to help and told us we would obtain a transfer form for 25k since it is in same compound, we don't know if he wanted to cash out from us but it is still better than buying a new meter of over 130k and installation billings...

Anyone in Lagos can contact me for the installation of sub meter at 18k excluding the cost of transportation.
With this, your power consumption can be calculated and monitored
How does the sub Meyer work. Where will the token be inputted. Or will each person buy their own token?

Here, people give electricians money to buy and fix it for them. It is very easy to fix though.

I think the people selling it are these guys selling electronics materials like, bulbs, cable

The image is the card reader... When your own units finishes, you give money to the person who is in charge of the meter to recharge for you
Is it the main Meyer that is being recharged or the card reader or sub Meyer.

Where can one get the check meter and roughly how much does it cost.

EYESofHORUS:
@nlreserve

The picture below is what you and your co-tenant needs. The person that introduce me to it called it CHECKED METER. I guess the sub meter nomenclature fits perfectly.

Lets assume both of you have it installed to your respective flats, you will have an agreement to recharge maybe 100k at first , contributed equally on the prepaid meter.

Once connected, you will be able to see the unit you consumed out of the 100k you guys bought. Then you can contribute the exact amount of unit you consumed for the month. Same as your co-tenant. And to cap it all, you can go with it when relocating. It is your property.

No more headaches. You both live happily ever after.

In the 1980s, guys like Papi Ebuka would spend the contributed NEPA bill and would give excuses for not producing the receipts for payments until the following week when NEPA officials would come to disconnect the power supply and cart away the wire, throwing the whole house into darkness. Then fight would start and everybody would start complaining against Papi Ebuka especially when they return home after a hard day at work , to sleep in mosquito infested rooms in darkness.

When NEPA restore light to the street ,with neighbours shouting up NEPA, but this house still in darkness, some younger co-tenants would become restless and start cursing Papi Ebuka. The following morning, Papi Ebuka would go to Nonso or Baba Muri's Shop to borrow #500 to pay the NEPA bill.
After this payment, NEPA would request for #50 reconnection fees (which was a huge amount of money in 1988) but the tenants would start arguing that it is Papi Ebuka that should pay but the guy man would turn a deaf ear and this may make angry and rude co-tenant like Ismaila or Broda Mike, to want to fight Papi Ebuka.

And tenants from the surrounding buildings would come to the compound to settle quarrel.

In the process, Chief Sylvester who lives opposite the house but has two shops at Idumota , may offer to pay the #50 reconnection fees.

The following week, while Papi Ebuka is yet to return from his chemist shop, Chief Sylvester would be making gestures at Mama Ebuka and trying to convince her, on how he could take better care of her than Papi Ebuka.Because there wasn't Hand phones then, these kinds of discussions were often done physically but in the process, Iya Amina ,the operate grinding machine at the next house would see the Chief talking with bedroom voice with Mama Ebuka a cross the road and boom, she would leave her house which doubled as her shop to trek 30 mins to Papi Ebuka's chemist shop to gossip with him about the brewing illicit relationship between Chief Sylvester and Mama Ebuka.

Papi Ebuka, would thank Iya Amina. Who would sit down to relax and used the opportunity to explain her backache medical conditions to Chemist Papi Ebuka. Then ,Papi Ebuka would say that 'this na serious condition o,but I fit give you ogbonge injection for inner room to cure it one time' and encourage Iya Amina to enter the inner cubicle in his Chemist shop which also doubles as his 'injection room'

As soon Iya Amina enter the inner cubicle, remove her wrapper to take the injection, the Devil would come into the play and one thing would lead to another, such that Papi Ebuka's diick would mistakenly enter the Pussy of Iya Amina ,in the inner cubicle. After 5mins, both would come out with Iya Aminat frowning her face as if unhappy about the 'mistake' that just happened but Papi Ebuka would console her , offer her a bottle of chilled 7-up or Mirinda with #20 to use as transport fare back home. And at that time ,i was a small boy sent on errand by Uncle Timo Shenko to buy amala at the junctiin and branch at Papi Ebuka's chemist to buy Tetracycline (commonly used to treat diarrhoea in those days), i was waiting at the counter for Papi Ebuka to come out and sell medicinesfor me ,when my preying eyes saw the two of them coming out from the inner cubicle in awkard positions.
Papi Ebuka would offer me 'condensed' which was a kind of home made ice cream tied in small bulbs of transparent nylon bags,in subtled attempts to bribe me because he knew that I saw what just transpired . He would also tell me that he has just bought a new football for Ebuka(his son who is my play and primary school classmate) and that I should be coming more frequently to their compound to play football. And this subtle bribes often worked because I wouldn't disclose the matter to anyone until over 30 years later, by which time the viscitudes of life has made me to understands that sometimes, shit happens amd what happens in Vegas ,still in Vegas.

I may not agree with u on this. My landlord stays in the house am living. The man is one the good person I ever met in my life. Infact he is like a father to me. Somebody that always use is own generator to pump water for the tenant wen thier is power issue. Anytime u called him for any issue he is ready to leave his work and fix it for u. He makes life so easy for his tenants. If he discover that u are using heavy electric consuming things in ur room, he will.go to the extent of changing ur meter to 3phase, so.that it will not giv u any issue.

But the thing is pay his rent wen due.
You are only lucky. Your landlord is just one in a billion.
