1. Why do you want to start the F1 VISA application as an incomplete applicant ? Later, you will say " My AVITS profile is on Pending Approval " for the past 3 - weeks.

2. A complete F1 VISA applicant is one , who " Has received and date-signed Form I-20. Has paid VISA fee (MRV), and Has paid SEVIS fee.

PS: F1 VISA applicants, as described in sense -2 above will usually be granted appointments prior to their school resumption, at worst , you will apply for expedite (emergency ) appointment.

PS: If you want to proceed by all means , then initiate the DS-160 application and save it for the future, and use the ds-160 code to request for your appointment. But, how will you upload the Form -I20 you have not received , as a requirement in requesting for F1 VISA interview appointment?

You already said youve applied to at least 7 and no positive result.
You're complaining about 500k for US application? Just your flight to and fro Abuja or Lagos is 300k, visa 300k, you'll still pay foe evaluation and SEVIS fee plus flight ticket.


So go for your MSc that is funded. And as you said enter the EE pool and wait it out . MSc is max 2 years. Get part time work and save some cash towards your goal.
Pace yourself. Phd is not running away.

But because my passport is expiring next January, I had to do a renewal last month. Now I am unable to update the AVIT portal with my new passport number.

2. I also want to change the DS-160 code I used to book the appointment since there's been some changes in my profile. I am also considering going with another school that has given me admission and better funding. I remember we used to put school details in the old CGI portal, which I'm unable to do in this AVIT system.

Considering the new system, please how best would you say is best to go about these two issues?

I was able to schedule my visa (renewal Interview waiver) last night. I have been pending appointment request for a month, got canceled and I re-uploaded my 1-20.

The only thing I did differently was to use another browser. I didn't know if that helped or not. But yes, I was able to proceed last night. Lagos Consulate.

Please note, mine is renewal

1. Second time attempt does not mean an automatic denial of some F1 -VISA application rights (emergency appointment, appropriate dates etc) to you. The US embassy are aware that some F1 VISA applicants will certainly re-apply after a denial, and they expect you to do so, especially if your reason for study abroad is genuine.

PS: They will grant your emergency appointment, and you may not even need to request for it , if there are lower population of F1- VISA applicants at the time. The embassy have set some VISA application rules in order to control crowd or over-population of VISA applicants ,and those flexible rules can be bend if need be.

Hey 🤠

1. Attend your interview with both old and new passports. Your new passport also carries the old passport number, so it's a continuation. Your VISA will be issued inside the new P.

2. Fill another DS-160 with your current information, and on the day of your VISA appointment, go with both old and new DS-160 printouts.

PS: The embassy understand this situation, and it is going to continue ,until there is " Profile Update " on AVITS.

Thank you for your kind wishes. I'm filled with gratitude to you.

I am restricted to PhD because it is the program that comes out on top in terms of full funding with living stipends called Teaching or Research Assistantships. Many Msc programs are not funded, or they would be partly funded, and I don't have the resources or network to complete the full funding. So I rely on PhD programs which largely come with full funding, but tough to get from a BSc if you didn't have a first class anyway, which I actually didn't.

My plan after the program would be to contribute to research in any of the Big Pharma's located in the US.

Since this is a safe space devoid of any VO presence (if I am correct), a Pharmacy practice wouldn't be existentially bad if I am not satisfied with the working environment at a research company. But that would mean me writing professional licensure exams and doing hours of internship, which I wouldn't mind.

However, the former remains the initial plan.

Not sure you are fully at a disadvantage for a PhD. Just take your time to find that program that have supervisors in your field of interest.

Not at all. In fact I was trying to show my colleague the rejection notification and the new pending approval.

Suddenly it just popped up asked if I had visa before and spme questions too after which it prompted me to document delivery info. As interview waiver but I would call them again on Monday

I tried another browser (microsoft edge) but it is still stuck at the pre approval stage. How long did it take for them to approve your second request?

I just discovered it doesn't matter actually. The AVITS website has been upgraded now and it has a functional FAQ now. One can schedule an interview anywhere as long as you print the confirmation page. The email US Embassy sent me was so cryptic, no explanation was given for the rejection, they then said if the pre-approval request is accepted go and schedule interview. I sha believe this phase will pass this week.

What is the typical timeline for Spring admission? I emailed the International Admissions Office, and they replied that admission decision notifications will start going out before the end of October. However, on the 4th of this month, I received an email invitation for a virtual tour scheduled for October 11. What bothers me is that my portal indicates complete applications will receive admission decisions within 4-6 weeks, whereas their website states 6-8 weeks. My application will be eight weeks old on Monday, October 7. I'm concerned this virtual tour might delay everything. Can I receive an admission decision before the virtual tour takes place?

I got a letter, appointment confirmation letter with the option to either bring the documents to the embassy (free) or schedule appointment with OIS to drop off my documents.

Hey 🤠

1. Spring admission in the USA starts from January or February, and can last up to May (last time to resume). Your School's International Student Admissions Office will keep to their word , therefore, expect your Form-I20 before then or a little bit later. They have thousands of international students files to compile and dispatch I 20s to.

2. For the fact that you have been invited to the "Virtual Tour" should give you a positive vibes, because , they want all their admitted international students (from Nigeria , China, India, Ghana, UK, etc) to have the experience of how their host-institution looks like, while they are preparing for resumption at home.

3. You have received an admission decision already (indirectly , with the virtual tour invite) , the question you are supposed to ask is that " will you be able to receive your Form -I20 before the virtual tour take-off ? The answer is yes , if you can email your admission counselor (not the admissions office), the delays and long waiting periods in processing the F1 VISA from Nigeria. Your assigned admission counselor /coordinator can hasten the release of your Form I-20 before then. If otherwise, you don't have to worry. You will eventually meet up with VISA appointment dates .
