Does The One Who Becomes Muslim Have To Change His Name? by Lukgaf(op): 4:48am On Oct 04, 2024
Does the one who embraces Islam have to change his old name to a new, Muslim name?
Praise be to Allah.

That is not obligatory, unless the name is one that is not permissible according to Islamic teachings, such as a name that is indicative of servitude to someone other than Allah, and the like. In that case he must change his name. The same applies if it is a name that is uniquely used by the disbelievers, and is not used by anyone else. In that case it must also be changed, so that he will not be resembling the disbelievers, and so that he will not feel attached to this name that belongs only to the disbelievers, and so that no one will think that he has not become Muslim yet. (End quote)

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin (may Allah have mercy on him).

If your name is George, Olayinka, UgoChukwu or 'Ali before Islam. No need change your name! But if your name is Stone, Satan, Burn, Red, Ogunwale, Èṣùbiyi, Ẹfunṣetan, Lampard, C.Ronaldo, Messi, etc, it's better you change them to stop venerating idols, humans or the kuffar!

Ignorant Islamist. George is a Christian name that is named after Saint George a Greek Christian. The origin of the name is one of the titles of the Greek god Zeus
On the other hand, Stone, Burn, Red, Efunsetan, Lampard, Ronaldo, Messi are secular names with no bearing with any god/God or religion. You are ignorant in Islam and even other affairs yet you're the loudest in your ignorance.

Besides that, Lateef Fagbemi the Attorney General has to change his name according to you munafiq. What hadith or quranic verse supports this?

Most of the so called Islamic name they choose to answer is ridiculous and has no sensible meanings yet they demonize their own native name. Name like Abubakar (Abu Bakr) which means father of a young camel. How can a human be named father of camel?

Or Hafsa which means young lioness. kekere kiniun grin

Not compulsory unless the name has an unconstructive meaning

Whatever you just started smoking, stop it before it stops you.

Esu, Sango, Obatala, Ogun are great men who lived at the tune of our forefathers. They are not spirits. So if some people think that such great men can be intermediary between them and God, then that is reasonable in my view just as some people think that Jesus Christ is intermediary between them and God.

You should look for the smoker at home among your folks! Smoking is forbidden here! And those names I stated are contrary to the worship of Allah in Islam so they need to be changed!

This is Islam and not your father's religion which you can define as you wish!

Thank you!
