Those places are called "agbo ile" where every Ibadan son and Daughter have their ancestral homes. That is how it has always been. Most of those houses are over 100years old

My own agbo ile in Isale Alfa,Ibadan clocked 90 this year. My Grandfather built it in 1934.

Most of those houses are now.empty and those that are not empty are inhabited by people that live in them for almost free.

The Old part of the city and they shall be till the very end of time.

Remember this JP Clark's quote "Ibadan,running splash of rust and gold-flung and scattered among seven hills like broken China in the Sun"

P.S. You won't like to see the modern part which are more than the old part anyway because if you do,you won't be able to close your mouth

Where is the modern part located? Bodija, Akala or Agodi the seat of power is like Sango Ota no modern building or infrastructure. Let's truth be told Ibadan people does not build in their town but Lagos

This is surely the ancestral or historic part of Ibadan for the locals, so you don't expect things to change.
We Nigerians enh, how will we maintain our cultural heritage?? If structures like this are demolished.
But we can pay thousands of dollars to go to Santorini to see the same old buildings and cultural heritage.

Many of those buildings were built b4 1960 when....ppl were living in the forest. They are now inhabiting the olds and less privileged. My great grandpa house is in there.

It’s a common knowledge, in Europe and America, there are ancient cities still standing till date. You will see ancient houses of over 100 years still being used till this day with very little changes.

Oh my goodness! Ibadan has experienced almost zero upgrade and the people seem so fine with it. It's as if they aren't neighbour's with Lagos....but then there's Ogun. They are twins in terms of having zero development

Nothing has changed, the same brown roof everywhere. You can't even see brown roof like this in the most remote village in my state. Ibadan people are not trying at all. If they don't want to develop their state, who will do it for them.

It’s a difficult one, to be honest.

The real issue with Ibadan is the rust-prone corrugated iron roofs introduced by the British looters who never used such roofing in England, but made it the norm in Nigeria, knowing full well they would rust into brownness after 50 years or so, ruining the aesthetics of buildings.

If a better roofing material was used, there would be no issue with those houses, which are indeed structurally sound, and just need a dash of paint.

The Oyo state govt could initiate with federal help, a program of Restoration, in which subsidies are offered to landlords for mandatory re-roofing of their properties.

It will likely happen in due course as the country gets richer and more prosperous.

Having an ancient city is not new in any part of the world.

I was in Boston recently, they have some ancient buildings people are still living there till date. Buildings of over 100 years old.
