Lakers Celebrate Success And Unity At Club Assembly

The Rotary Club of Abuja Jabi Lakeside held a vibrant and inspiring Club Assembly on October 5, 2024, marking a significant moment of gratitude and celebration for members of the “Lakers” community. Under the leadership of the “Magic President” Amobi Ogum, the event was hosted at a serene resort and attended by over three dozen members. This assembly served not only as a retreat but as a recognition of the club’s remarkable achievements and collective commitment to community service over the past year.
In his address, President Ogum expressed immense pride in the club’s journey, referencing the African proverb, “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” (a person is a person through persons) to highlight the Lakers’ spirit of unity and collaboration. He shared that the club’s growth and impact had exceeded expectations, with numerous successful projects benefiting communities in and around Abuja.

Milestones of Community Impact
In just 100 days, the Rotary Club of Abuja Jabi Lakeside has delivered outstanding service initiatives, including:
Maternal and Child Health Projects: The club participated in a district-wide health project and launched their own initiatives in Kuchigoro and Kuje, providing birthing kits to over 100 expectant mothers and assisting indigent patients with medical bills.

Educational Sponsorship: A testament to their focus on education, the Lakers sponsored the schooling of five children from a widow named Maryam and continued support for Ladalo, a polio survivor and university student.
Business Empowerment: The club successfully hosted the Lakers Business Expo, showcasing over 35 vendors, with plans underway for a bigger second edition.

Environmental Initiatives: Partnering with local schools, the Lakers installed recycling bins to combat plastic pollution, contributing to the #StopSingleUsePlastic campaign.
Health and Vaccination Efforts: Marking World Hepatitis Day, the club, in collaboration with IHVN, administered vaccines and conducted health tests for over 500 people in Kuchigoro.
Financial Strength and Membership Growth
The financial health of the club remains robust, with over N17 million in reserves, despite their extensive community projects. The Lakers have also experienced significant membership growth, inducting 25 new members this year, demonstrating the club’s appeal and vibrant atmosphere.

Looking ahead, the Lakers have ambitious plans to further their impact. These include continuing their maternal health projects, promoting education through ICT learning in Kuchigoro, and empowering the girl-child. Additionally, the club aims to grow its membership and offer support to local teachers through capacity-building workshops, which have already earned the Lakers recognition as the highest sponsor in recent workshops.
