‘How Do We Survive?’ - Nigerians Lament Fresh Fuel Price Hike by ijustdey(op): 2:45pm On Oct 09, 2024
Nigerians have expressed dismay over the recent fuel price increase by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL), saying it would worsen poverty among the citizens.

Fuel which previously sold for N897 in Abuja, the nation’s capital, currently sells for N1,030.

In Lagos, the product which previously sold for N885 per ltire is now being sold at N998 amid long queues.

Following this, some Nigerians have taken to the social media platforms to share their thoughts.

On social media, @rolandjick267 wrote: “How do we survive? This is becoming too much.”

@Sthabbey said: “This situation is becoming unacceptable. Nigerians deserve respect from @officialABAT and his administration. This is unwarranted, and our patience has been stretched to its limit.”

@qudus_kalas wrote: “At this point they should just throw atomic bomb 💣 in the country make every body kuku kpai once and for all”

@Abubakar_tatari said: “It’s getting out of hand , no sympathy for the masses . This regime is just heartless.”

@Chambez84: “Thank you Mr President for us. we like the suffering and I am happy about it. please suffer us more Nigerian love you.. I am suggesting for Nnpc to sell the fuel at 5000 per liter it will strengthen our economy.”

@El_khaleel: “Tinubu just take the price that you want it to be we tired with this your policies yesterday price is not todays price 🥹🥹.”

@khalifakila: “Nigerians are very patient people wallahi. This can’t happen in other countries. Just wake up one morning and add price of PMS and life goes on.”

@Sirpascal: “Instead of Nigerians to benefit from dangote refinery , they’re paying more for fuel , even though crude is sold in Naira to him … Nigeria is not a place for the living ..”

On Facebook, Abdullahi Bala Muhammad said: “The president should call them to order because what they are doing these days is getting out of hand’s in fact they are pushing poor Nigerians to the wall and if they pushed back the things won’t be good to the government.”

Nurabros Ahmed: “Well let’s president Tinubu Knows that all this things that he is Rulling people with hardship suffernes day will come he will be Accountable to the Almighty Allah.”

Ash’hab Nasir: “We will still survive irrespective of their actions, and we will definitely live the life they never wanted for us..”

Nasir Usman Rawayya: “This is unfair to humanity.”

The development comes 24 hours after Daily Trust reported a likely pump price increase as a result of NNPCL’s exit as a middleman in the Dangote Refinery fuel purchase deal.

Peter Obi was the best candidate, no be lie, but let's be honest, under Obi, we would have had the same result.

By May 2023, the results of decades of borrowing to pay for subsides since the late 1970's was in, and we had a lot of debt from maintaining subsides, which, among other things, was contributing to debt eating 99% of our government revenue.

At the end, and please let's put politics aside, APC, PDP, LP and company, Igbo and Yoruba aside......how are you going to pay for subsides with debt servicing eating 90% of our revenue? Is it by miracle, or by more loans while we wait for the results of good policies.?

Whoever took over, we were in dire straits. Either subsides were removed, or we got into taking more loans...to the point where debt would be eating something like 150% of our revenue. Then we go see shege...real shege.

The annoying thing about this APC government is that they are still doing the same old looting, and same old sharing money, but vote in Obi, and nothing could be done....and even if he raised prices to N400 , it would just be what Buhari was doing all this time ....which worsened the debt situation in the first place...among other causes.

I effing hate to sound like I am defending this government, and lord knows I don't like being called an APC supporter, when I have not voted for either big parties since I started voting., and when I have been suspicious of tinubu since 2005 (when Gani raised questions about his certificate back then)....but in 2023, may... this is what was happening.

debt service was eating 90% of our revenue
Subsidy funding was going to run out by June ending...no matter what tinubu did...and the only way to get subsidy back was by either taking more loans, or removing it to get more extra money, and then using some of that to fund subsidy.

And even now the subsidy that tinubu brught back is causing us more issues...debt has risen again.

What magic would you perform to keep fuel below N200 Per liter, without taking loans and suchlike.?

AM sure you would call me agbado.......but we were in a shitty situation, and it was godawful. Make no mistake, vote Obi, vote Kwankwaso....it would have produced the same result re oil prices.

Yes, I am angry with APC, and they are useless.....but politcs aside, unless you have a pot filled with 130 trillion naira....no way we were going to keep fuel prices low.

The problem with Nigeria is that we keep making the same mistakes over and over again, whoever is in charge , because we don't want to do the right thing, and we don't want to end corruption.

Nigeria has gone beyond protest. What Nigeria needs now is revolution.

If this is true then we're better off importing petrol instead of relying on Dangote Refinery cos I have not seen the benefit of that refinery angry
