The above topic is very popular in the Bible studies expecially as it relates to families raising children. Growing up in christian and very religious family, I have had this verse quoted over and over again and, most of us have come to believe this as a kind of gospel thruth. Now looking up, we quickly realize the verse is replete with assumptions like the phrase "train up a child", like, what kind of training is being implied here. Also, " the way he should go" , what does the above phrase mean in connection with child training. Now coming to the most important aspect which I have observed keenly among families, I have, as an example, this man in our church with three kids, he is a devout Christian and the couple tried everything possible to bring up their kids in the way of God and the Bible. They provided every kind of comfort , , ,training and nurture to the three kids. The two kids grew up to become successful and responsible members of the family while the middle child rebelled and grew up to be a criminal. Now, looking at the above scenario, who are we to blame for how the middle child turned out? The parent? I know lots of people will accuse the parent of not training up the child "the way he should go" according to the holy scriptures but bear in mind the same trading was provided to the three children with resulted in a successful upbringing of the the two kids. I believe no matter the training you give to a child, he may still grow up to rebel and completing go against those training and hence the phrase " when he is grown, will not depart from it" is wrong. A parent may train up a child the way he should go and the child will grow up to rebel against those very trainings. |

Even the Devil rebelled against God when heaven is perfect, without lack of needs. A child may have everything and yet still rebel sometimes . Exposure is the best way to train a child. A child who is too sheltered will rebel against such parents. When everything is handed to them, they tend to be lazy and spoiled. Spare the rod, spoil the child- this goes beyond physical beating. Let the child face the consequences of their actions so that life will not deal with them when they are grown up . I knew a guy who was spoiled from the beginning , his parents gave him everything and even more, I used to be envy the guy and wonder why my parents was not like his parents. Omo this guy had the latest shoes, clothes, phone , watches. But as an adult, I notice the guy is so lazy that is even embarrassing. Now he cannot fend for himself despite countless opportunities offered to him. Opportunities that people are begging to have, because in his mind, he is above such job opportunities. |

THE CRY OF THE TEENS AND YOUTHS Economic uncertainty also looms heavily in our heart. With inflation affecting the cost of living and wages lagging behind, young people often feel they cannot afford the lifestyles, and good life their parents once had. As they struggle with student debt, rising rent, and limited job opportunities, many feel disillusioned about achieving financial independence. The traditional pathway of education leading to a stable career and a secure future seems less certain, adding stress to an already overwhelmed generation. Climate change adds a unique layer to this crisis. Facing a world of worsening natural disasters, environmental degradation, and the potential impacts of climate policy, teens and young adults experience "climate anxiety" — the dread of inheriting a planet in decline. For many, the future feels uncertain, even bleak, making it difficult to plan for careers, relationships, and long-term goals. In response, many youths have turned to activism, using social media as a tool to voice concerns and call for change. Yet, the burden of saving the world can feel overwhelming. Teens and young adults today are caught between the pressures of a rapidly changing world and the desire to make a meaningful impact, leaving them in a state of agonizing uncertainty about the future. There is hope for the teens and youths. Dont give up on us, we need your love, care, guidance and attention |

Nnamdipapa:The thing about religion, including Christianity, and the many overlords engaged in it is you are bound to get coming out distorted ideas than the original messages fed into them. Take this verse taken from Hebrew Scripture which you referenced. "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it" — Proverbs 22:6. The key to understanding the verse is to understand what The Way is about. The words were spoken by an Israelite to an Israelite audience, a people whose understanding dictates that the only way given to them by the God of their ancestors is the Law of Moses by which their very nation was established. What this means is that to an israelite during the time in question, to train a child in The Way was to train the child to live by the Law of Moses. ![]() The author of the above verse suggests that training the children to follow The Way provides a guarantee that they will not depart from it when they are old. Are there examples of this to be found in Hebrew Scripture? A good example is Samson who was strictly raised by both his father and mother to follow and live according to the stipulations of the Law as a child. The Law was the Supreme Law of the land, and so raising him to abide by it was sort of molding him into a law-abiding citizen of the nation of Israel. It was their duty by law to do just that and that is what they did — nothing religious in all of it. When Samson was older, he continued to abide by the Law of Moses, going as far as to attack the enemies of Israel. Of course, he did stray but before his end, he came back to the very Law which he was raised to abide by and ended his life doing what he knew of it. ![]() |
