You are actually correct because during my it in the late 1990s at one point I was on building electrical works and attached to artisans and this is what they used to do.

Its cheaper for Nigeria because we have abundance of gas. Its not necessarily cheaper for most of the developed world. The difference between fuel and Cng price isn't worth the stress of building the infrastructure to service it.

Most of the people commenting were talking about the US and the major reason they gave why CNG cars are not popular in the US are:

1. PMS is cheap in the US, so the difference in price between PMS & CNG is about 60 cents
2. The few CNG stations available in different locality in the US
3. Compressed gas is explosive.

A lot of Indian's commented, but from the comments I saw, I don't think Nigeria is ready infrastructurally to manage this CNG initiative, and the general gist is anything CNG that doesn't come factory fitted is OYO.

Another niggling issue is the price of CNG, it's cheap today, what's the guarantee that when there's significant adoption of the tech we won't start hearing talk of PMS and CNG is at par in US and Europe, why should our case be different? There's also the issue of boot space allocation to consider...commercial vehicle owners that convert to CNG will have to forego boot space, how dem go manage dawan?

This is exactly how CNG will end. Will be cheap initially then price will rise. I even hear some stations in lagos sell for almost double of what some others are selling. Just like what we've been going through with PMS.

There are two Mobil and one nipco in my immediate vicinity within 15 to 20 minutes drive


If I am looking at 20 to 30 minutes there are like three nipcos within my range.

That's another issue. Cooking gas was also cheap in the past until they removed subsidy on petrol, people adopted LPG and then boom the price went above the ceiling.

All those Sienna that are 7 seaters, I wonder where they will fix their CNG cylinder

There are just 47 mobil stations in Lagos, outskirts of Lagos and Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Obviously not everybody can live close to their stations. So most people will always go with the price of independent gas plants as the average cost per kg.
