Which Is Better, Buying A House Or Building One? by Nelbless(op): 5:16pm On Oct 12, 2024
Hello guys so I just clocked 40, unmarried and desire owning my own house prior to raising/making a family, am based in Abuja, a native of anambra.

I have been caught in the dilemma of choosing which one makes economical sense, I stay around jikwoyi/karu but desire, moving into a more elite hood, and so I began enquiring of properties and had seen properties priced between 100m and 150m mark within durumi, asokoro and the likes.

But I feel within me that it may cost me less to build some of these properties, and so I feel I should ask.

Can #130m budget give me, a brilliant house (I mean building from the scratch, land acquisition is not included) .....

Facilities in the house have to include

A sitting room
4 ensuite rooms
Prayer chamber
Gym
Mini swimming pool
Jacuzzi and All morden interior finishing seen in homes today

Please I need your counsel

If you have the time, build your house to your taste. And be close enough to the workers for effective supervision. Otherwise, they'll be using 1 bag of cement for 10 wheel barrows of sand, to make room for stealing materials. This is one of the major causes of building collapse in the country.

I had to leave a construction company because of this. They're always cutting corners without caring about those who will live inside them. Good luck.

Building for sure, most houses for sale are mostly packaged rubbish, be ready to spend half the sale price for maintenances from electrical to plumbing you will regret your decision in a few years. Don’t be fooled by smart lights at the entrance its all a facade.

I won't lie you, I almost fall for this last week, saw a property a terrace apartments three rooms, with properties etc, going for 85m, before I flew in from anambra to Abuja someone else have bought it, via social media it looked so nice and as you said... Fancy lights and architectural design made it break taking

As an architect i have been contracted by alot of developers and believe me quality is not even on their list of priorities, all they want is the most units they can get out of their budget and how to complete it on time so they can move on. Better to build your home to your taste with the kind of materials you personally choose to work with. Most buildings priced at 400m aren’t worth up to 250m.

Wow..... This makes sense, cos in every business the aim is to make the most gain.

Thanks for this huge advice.

You know people close to me where advising me to go buy a house to avoid the contractor and labourers tussles, cost of building material and other wahala that comes with building, but I thought otherwise
