Re: Why Enugu Government Imposed Tax On Dead Bodies – Revenue Board by Baffupdrizz(m): 12:51pm On Oct 13, 2024
The reason given here is still not justifiable.

In an effort to discourage the people from taking dead bodies to the mortuary, the State Government in this case is imposing more tax upon the bereaved, not minding the fact that one of the reasons for embalmment of dead bodies in the first place is due to lack of money (financial insurance) at the instance of unexpected deaths in the country, which warrants the need to preserve the remains in the mortuary in order to give the bereaved some time to raise money for funerals.

Levying the embalming process is not only counterproductive but a callous means of adding extra burden to the grief of those related to dying citizens by the State Government.

I support that tax but it's too small. My suggestion would be this: no tax for the first 1 week. After that, 1k per day.
I don't know why people keep bodies in the morgue for months. Bury the dead and let them go and rest
Re: Why Enugu Government Imposed Tax On Dead Bodies – Revenue Board by Lush100(m): 12:58pm On Oct 13, 2024
What's this nonsense tax.

It doesn't matter the state where this is imposed

So we should not live in peace and we cannot also die in peace.

Something most be wrong with the thinking people in authority.

As someone rightly say, one month grace before you start taxing the dead would av been better. The economy is already heard let not make it harder.

Every state in Nigeria does this. If you loose someone, you’ll understand better.

If this is not done, quite a number of Nigerians will leave their dead in the mortuary for years waiting to have more money to give a so-called befitting burial All these large burials, weddings. … absolutely unnecessary.

If this "dead bodi" tax were to be in a State, say, Lagos State, it would have been termed an "Armageddon" of sorts.

Truth be told, although the directive is not directed at the families of the deceased in the State but per se, the ultimate burden would be borne by them for as long as the corpses remain in the morgue.

The Enugu State government is being too clever by half.

They're taxing dead bodies by hook or crook!

Igbo man and money matter na America wonder, sorry, Igbo wonder o.

Abi, I lie?

What does the government gives the Mortuary owner in turn for keeping bodies?

You cannot just be collecting money without equally giving commensurate values.

They do.
But hypocrites will not see this to wail about.

If it were to be in a state from another region this thread would have been littered with tears of those ready and willing to cry more than the bereaved.

But it is demeaning to both the living and the dead, going around counting corpses because some greedy politicians and their goons need to earn some extra funds.

Ghosts do exist, have had personal experience.

This is very distasteful. What kind of accursed country are we living in? Even the dead has no rest. Haaa....The kind of leaders we have in this country are a special breed from hell.
You don't provide any form of amenities to the people yet you tax them even in deathhuh Sick sick sick people.
Its this same hopeless people that want to start taxing solar electricity users. Veery nonsense people.
Guy, cool down. Burial processes is creating a social problems in the East. Dead bodies stays years in the morgue for their families to meet up the burial processes. Both the Churches and Government have been trying to avert these but it is not working.
Some churches have said that if you don't bury your dead relatives within 30 days, that they will not participate. It is still not working. An average family needs millions of Naira for burial. This is what they are trying to discourage. If it succeeds in Enugu State, other states in the East will adopt it because it a social problems among the States in the East.
