I come in peace.

I want to get something straight. How many hours of electricity does a provider supply an area designated as "Band A"?

If it is at least 20 hours per day, how come people complain about the prices since it is almost constant? And protest if their area is about to be designated Band A? Two, how come industries still have to face diesel issues when Band A areas are available across every state (please correct me if I am wrong)? Or is Band A only meant for residential areas?

Thank you.
Before the band A categorization of my area, I was running my home per month with 172.5 units which cost 10k with extreme management.

I had stopped using water heater, electric stove, electric kettle, electric jug, sandwich toaster, microwave and all those heat generating electrical kitchen appliances.

All bulbs in my home are energy saving bulbs. The bulbs in the living room, dinning area, bedrooms and kitchen are 20w while those in the balconies, bathrooms, toilets and terraces are 5w.

My two ACs hadn't been used in years. Even during the period of heatwave, na ceiling fans/standing fan we dey use.

I switch off the Fridge and Deep Freezer every night before going to bed and switch them back on in the morning.

I had ditched my steam pressing iron about 2 years ago and got one of those sturdy fairly-used pressing iron used by tailors.......and when ironing, I switch off the TVs, the Fridge and Deep Freezer to conserve the electricity units.

When doing laundry with the washing machine, I also switch off the Fridge, Deep Freezer and TVs.

I monitored the use of electricity to ensure that lights, ceiling fans, electricity sockets were never left on indiscriminately.

On 6th of July, I did my monthly 10k electricity recharge and got the shock of my life when I was credited with only 44 units. Unknown to me, my area had been migrated quietly to Band A on July 1st .

Now for me to obtain the equivalent 172.5 units I was getting with 10k, I'll have to cough out 40k, a whopping 300% increase.

With the exorbitant electricity tarrif, fuel price, cost of public transportation, cooking gas and the massive inflation in staple foods, food stuff, groceries and consumer good etc

Why people no go complain?

NB: I live in the poorest and least industrialized state in the South East but which is reputed to have the best power supply.

Wifey has joined all those bulk purchase foodstuff sharing groups to obtain food stuff cheaper.

Yam is now so pricey so we have ditched it completely and buy potatoes instead.

I transferred my kids to their school's permanent site which is uncompleted but a stone throw from the house. Distance is like from Pako to Chemist in Akoka so dem dey waka go and dey waka come back.

I now stagger the payment of my kids school fees. I pay for the elder in one month and the younger one the next month.

DSTV, I don stop subscription. Thankfully, I'm not a TV or football person. To keep the kids entertained, I downloaded binge compilations of their favourite cartoons from youtube onto my external HDD and that's what they watch during their TV time,

The way I now compare substitute/alternative products and do cost-quantity analysis when buying groceries these days, you go fear. angry
X milk is 950g but is N5000, Y milk is 1000g but is 5500. X milk is actually better value for money. cheesy

My mechanic has called me several times to "greet me" but me know say him no dey see work like before and so money no dey touch him hand again, hence the calls. No be motto wey dem dey drive, dem dey carry go mechanic?

I could relate and feel the pain of that TV presenter who said she doesn't feel middle class anymore and walked off air.

The middle class have been dragged down and are now closer to touching poverty.

Truth is Nigeria has become too expensive to live in.

We are stuck in a rut, and it doesn't appear as if things will get better anytime soon or even later.

I thought I'm the only one that has been thinking about these artisans. Last week I just found myself writing an article in my mind about hike in fuel price and it's effect on mechanics.

Some mechanics will be regretting they learnt repairs of motor vehicles instead of any other skill considering what you just narrated now. Most people drive their cars occasionally now which means the chances of the vehicle developing fault is extremely low. That automatically means auto mechanics and their families will feel the economic hardship more than any other artisan. Only those repairing company cars majorly will still be able to boast of regular income

The Pentagon has announced the immediate deployment of a U.S. THAAD battery to Israel, operated by American soldiers, to strengthen Israel’s defenses against potential ballistic missile attacks from Iran.

Between you and I, these systems are already here.

Confirmed @hopefullandord, Israel is getting THAAD batteries.

Band A costs about N225/kwh. Average cost of electricity in the US is about N260/kwh. Average income in both countries are far apart.

If Band A were only applicable to rich man areas like Magodo and co, it's still understandable. But now it has affected the middle class and poor. People are even protesting that they don't want.

The average income in us and Nigeria is far apart, but is the cost of infrastructure also far apart?

Is the cost of a transformer or cable or concrete poles or overhead cables lower in Nigeria than in the US?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_therapy_(economics)

Shock therapy is a program intended to economically liberalize a mixed economy or transition a planned economy or developmentalist economy to a free-market economy through sudden and dramatic neoliberal reform. Shock therapy policies generally include ending price controls, stopping government subsidies, privatizing state-owned industries, and tighter fiscal policies, such as higher tax rates and lowered government spending.[1] In essence, shock therapy policies can be distilled to price liberalization accompanied by strict austerity.[2]: 4

Wow.
Just imagine having to do all this to LIVE. We are not even talking about enjoyment. Bros, you have done more than enough, you have tried with all these adjustments.
Yet some mof** will come here to say "Prosperity is close", and the other one too that also doesn't live in Nigeria but is talking about 2027. May you both have a taste of what you support wherever you are.

I differ .
40k monthly for near constant electricity isn't much in my opinion. If you were to use generator you'd spend that amount in a week.

Without transparency and actually lowering government spending, especially as regards inflated contracts, I doubt this shock therapy would have the needed effect; a wool would be pulled over our eyes and people will end up suffering and dying for nothing.

Imagibe not using AC u bought with Ur money, not using microwave, electric stove, water heater in the bathroom, toaster, blender, pressing iron and switching off freezer and fridge to keep the cost at 40k.

Do u know what his bill will be if he uses more than one of those appliances?

Unfortunately true.

Federal civil service is bloated. Let Tinubu take the axe to that and we will hear he is wicked.

NNPC kaduna has been on a free pass getting paid to do nothing for over a decade. Shutter the place and there will be an immediate outcry.

As for government contracts that one is another story

We surveyed saw a 101% unsuitable site for an nnpc project. Based on our report and feedback they shit down the site as unsuitable. Only for us to get a call that the site has been bought and they are going ahead.

A site that we had originally calculated would have to be sanfilled to 9 m or more.

To be frank the AC is the only item that really applies because the AC will run throughout.

You use microwave for 10 minutes at a time,
iron max 2 hours in a week.
Blender maybe 10 mins a day
Boil water in electric kettle for 5 minutes
late model fridge and freezer do not draw power.

Do we use the same quality of infrastructure? Do our infrastructure even come half close to what is available in the US? Do their infrastructure not cost more than ours?
Do we employ the same number of power technicians? Do they not employ more than us
Do their power technicians in the US not earn far more than their counterparts in Nigeria? Isn't their total power wage bill far above us?
Do we have expensive R&grin departments and consultant fees for our power industry like theirs?

Pray tell why I in Nigeria should pay N225kw/hr which is similar to what someone in the US is paying?

Shock therapy economics, but little done to resolve banditry which has prevented farmers from farming as they should. Man promised reduction in importation charges on food items but nothing as of now.

The Customs charges high in dollars, increasing inflation rate further. A sound government should work on that policy.

Shock therapy economies that hasn't affected government officials one bit. No reduction in expenditure or frivolities.

You are answering your own question without realising it. So if I decide to invest in power and supply power to your estate. I buy generator, run cables, deploy meters and spend over a billion. Then I am told I can only charge n60/kw.

Yes in Nigeria you will pay less as wages. But you will pay the dollar rate for cables, switchgear etc.

I am working on a small ev project with an material cost of 22 million. The charger itself may be another 22 million. After that investment by the client do you think they will charge n100 per kw to charge cars?

Tinubu is pushing this country to a true free market economy. Nobody is going to invest in a free market economy where his prices are forced by the government

The dance between dangote and the fg is not just about dangote, but it is a litmus test for others who are thinking of coming into Nigeria.

As a country we have allowed too many problems to fester and we are now paying the price.

Oil theft
Insecurity in the north
Petrol as the prime energy source

I agree that Tinubu has failed in image perception as he should be able to show the populace that austerity measures are affecting him and his administration as well.

The Deployment of a THAAD Battery as well as U.S. Troops to Israel does not come Lightly. This is either the U.S. being Extremely Concerned that the Israeli Response against Iran will be Significant enough for a Full-Scale War in the Region; or some kind of Deal has been made between U.S. and Israeli Officials about Limiting their Response, and in exchange the U.S. agreed to Supplement the Israeli Air Defense Array with a THAAD Battery.

IDF already denied this report.

But it does stand to reason that Biden will have an ask for deploying a THAAD battery and 2 nuclear submarines.
