The Strange Irony Of Yoruba People by danvon(op): 8:47am On Oct 14, 2024
Other tribes in Nigeria want secession but they want secession because they feel marginalized but with Yorubas it seems to be the complete opposite

The President is Yoruba, CBN Governor Yoruba, DSS Leader Yoruba, Chief of Army Staff Yoruba, Commissioner of Police Yoruba

In short it is at the precise moment when Yorubas are ruling the country that are fighting for secession

Is this a sign of hubris - "We are too good for this country"

Or is it a sign of authenticity - "We are not using secession to blackmail the country to meet our demands, we really want to leave"

The real hypocrisy is saying "they want Biafra but want Obi to be President of Nigeria"

These ones already have Tinubu as President but want Oduduwa Republic!

Isn't that hypocrisy?

I'm not sure hypocrisy is the right word

If they were fighting for secession and changed tune once they have their man in office it might be hypocrisy.

It can be many things but not hypocrisy

..you still don't understand those people..you think they really want seccession..? they are deceiving some people especially the poor from their regions..

the cries for oduduwa republic is to beat their chest at a later date..nothing else..nothing more..

..In the future..when they are faced with the question of " why did they not secede from Nigeria when their kinsman was there"..they will tell you that they did infact protest to secede..even though there kinsman was there..& they will tell you how..despite a yoruba man at the affairs..they still asked for secession.. grin cheesy

..this protest they are doing in London is a perfect example..why London..why not in SW..poo'hari is gone..

..you see why the protest does not make sense.. grin grin grin

Yorubas have not clamor for anything like Oduduwa republic..

If Yoruba wants to exit Nigeria, it won’t be coming from Igboho. He’s just on his own..

And yes, if Yoruba wants to exit Nigeria, we’ll be able to exit and that marks the end of Nigeria..

Back then when secession bill was introduced and to be considered, can you simply remind me of the tribe wey started shouting one Nigeria and refused to support the secession bill..?

You have nothing to be curious or worry about..

Yoruba have not said they want to exit Nigeria. If they want to, it won’t be coming from Igboho. We have elders in charge of Yoruba welfare’s..

So the foundation in which you used in making your statement is not valid, cuz Yoruba are yet to even say they want to exit Nigeria..

You are simply dishonest by nature. Probably Igbo. Most Yorubas do not back secession. They are happy in Nigeria but want regional autonomy that will Liberate the SW from "one Nigeria" lunancy Yorubas understand will prevent Nigeria, and Yoruba land by extension, from ever becoming safe, economically buoyant and progressive.

Yes Yorubas are too good for Nigeria. Nothing indicates that more than how Oyo Governor, with the endorsement of virtually all Yorubas , dealt swiftly and decisively with disruptive Yoruba nation agitators whereas Igbos worship and obey Terrorists like Kanu and Ekpa with Northerners holding brief for terrorist and even "rehabilitating" them.

If you lot had sense and are upright, plus truth tellers, you would really commend Yorubas for being the only major ethnic group that has it together and the biggest credit to Nigeria instead of always trying to gaslight us with spurious allegations. Virtually everything good about Nigeria today is connected to the Yorubas.

Precisely. Yorubas are wise and sensible. They think of consequences before they act unlike others we know. Igboho does not speak for Yorubas.

Majority of Yorubas want a change to the governance structure of Nigeria and not secession. OP is probably just another IPOB layabout looking to tag Yorubas as 'hypocrites' whereas the truth is that Yoruba's are not haters of the "Zoo", and their fellow Nigerians, as Igbos are.

Look at how Yorubas accomodate, support and empower non-Yorubas in the SW to note we have no issues with others. We just want a change to the fundamental governance structure of Nigeria so the destructive lunacy of 'one Nigeria', keeping SW backwards, ends.

Only Yorubas created and sustained an effective security outfit in the form of Amotekun. The Igbo version of Ebubeagu has long been disdanded for human rights abuse and serious misconduct. These type of reality show how progressive Yorubas are averagely and why they are seething at been held back by'one Nigeria'.

The SW would be far better than South African anf Egypt today had that Covetous Ironsi not ended regional governance.

Those people are averse to seeing or admitting the truth because of hatred of others.
They know the Yorubas, though not perfect, are a better and far more balanced people than they are and should be learning lfrom. Yet hatred and envy Of Yorubas will never allow them admit that as GEJ does below.

Nigeria really is unfair to Yorubas as we are being burdened by the irresponsibilities of others.

https://www.nairaland.com/6617431/only-south-west-properly-managed

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has said the rest of Nigeria can learn something about the management of ethnic and religious diversity from the South West.

He attributed Nigeria’s current problems to its failure to properly manage its diversity in a way that gives minorities a sense of belonging.

The former president said this in an address at the 13th Joe-Kyari Gadzama Public Lecture with the theme: ‘Redefining Democracy: Yearnings of the Minority in a Democratic Setting,’ which was held virtually.

Jonathan said, “That is the only part of Nigeria where we feel has been able to manage religion and development very well.

“So, we must look at our own unique circumstances and come up with the right form of government.”

To you and your duplicitous ilk, it might seems like hypocrisy but to sane and objective minds, it is genuine dissatisfaction with the state of affairs of yorubas in this warped union. We truly want to leave this flawed union. We fared better when we were managing our own affairs by ourselves until some never-do-wells foisted unitary system of government on us all. Ever since (we lost our autonomy), our homeland has been deteriorating steadily with the state of the country.

This was why discerning yorubas like my good self refused to vote for "emilokan/ awalokan" 'cause we know that no-one can save Nigeria from her impending doom. Nigeria is beyond redemption! No messiah can arrest the fall of Nigeria!! Only the corrupt yoruba political class and their sycophants in conjunction with the wanna-bees believes in the narrative of a better Nigeria.

This is unlike the proponents of biafra who have been assaulting our ear-drums with the cries of biafra for eons until Peter obi came on the scene and they ALL, overnight suddenly morphed into "Obidients" with a new sing-song , "Obi is the most competent of them all", "Obi will turn consumption into production (with his magic wand)" and bla bla bla. The same "Peter Obi" who ruled tiny Anambra state for 8 years and couldn't save it with his fake magic wand is now the "messiah" who is purportedly going to save Nigeria with over 200million people.

Una just dey jounce.

It always starts small, no major movement was ever started by the majority, it is usually started by the intelligentsia and the upper middle class and some military elements, as time goes on the majority will join.

This year alone we had two protest, one in Oyo and one in Osun, excluding Igboho in London, we can expect more in the nearby future.

If Yorubas do not want to secede and simply want regional autonomy as you claim, then that raises more questions...

Why now? and against whom do they want regional autonomy from since the Federal structure is currently controlled by Yorubas.

It shows they really want to leave.
After the president leaves office, will the problems they faced in the past not come back to meet them?
Does having all ministerial position give them the development they want if they are still bound by the rules set by others
Yoruba gave Nigeria the chance in the 50s and that chance was spoilt in the 60s till now, so the agitation for secession is real and its not hubris

The case for secession is real, not hubris
