![]() Before they made it to the position of directors, the people who resigned and went abroad, would have made it more than them, if they have their target goals... How many Nigerian director can boast of not being corrupt? If they don't steal government money when they get to the position of director, there's noway they can be more bigger than their mate that left and went abroad... |

PEACE2023:To be frank, don't blame those leaving Nigeria. It is possible you will remain there for next 10 years without being able to build a beffiting house for yourself and family or being able to sponsor your children to abroad/local good schools for better education while those ones that are moving abroad will achieve those things within next 10 years. It is a personal choice. |

PEACE2023:Being in a foreign organized country,it sounds bizarre hearing you say..my uncle gave this and that job...lol..like someone said here, northerners don't fare well where merit is used. And it is heartbreaking that these mediocrity will be our leaders and then we expect Nigeria to be a better place. |

PEACE2023:The southerner are leaving because this so called Northern and southern rubbish need to stop. Position shouldn't be selective. It should be based on who's qualified for it. The country Nigeria can't work. When the country is finally separated the southerner will come back and develop this region. Monkey no fit work and baboon dey chop. This rubbish need to stop. |

PEACE2023:I know corruption is not tribal or religion based, but people from the North are more contended than us in the South, wether you like it or not ,and they're more politically smart, and have foresight. Southerners are more about what they about to gain now,God help those who help themselves,we can do better. |

So this is how you people are doing over there, Northerner giving jobs to Northerner then Southerner giving jobs to Southerner then it gets to state giving jobs to his state man then down to the villages. And someone will tell me Nigeria will get better. No hope for the common man insight |

Fiscus105:Directors are by most senior, where they are many, they write exams and attend interviews. Where the major tribes are involved, they adopt federal character. Meaning all the zones or region must be represented. |

Op. You’re right I work in a lucrative parastatal too. Most of the people living for abroad (japa) are southerners .. The northers in my office will just work their way back to Abuja from Lagos CBN even picked some of our guys . Those guys have relocated to Canada today No norther has resigned since I joined the company |

This write up needs to be saved for future reference. There are some moves we make that have long run effects and most times we just consider the immediate gains, one of them is this. The cravings of an average southerner is so enormous while an average northerner is alright with a moderate lifestyle, more reasons they aren't moved by the japa syndrome. |

PEACE2023:What is obvious from the quality of your grammar is that either u know u have no hope of passing IELTS or u have attempted it several times with no success and now you resorted to blackmailing other Nigerians to stay with u in the economically sinking ship, Nigeria. We all want different things in life, your life goal may be to be head of Nigerian civil service. |

ednut1:In addition, there are more opportunities for them based on quota and ethnicity. I have seen a few return to Nigeria with good jobs already waiting for them. For most Southerners, the fear of arriving in Nigeria's overcrowded job market puts many off. |

Ringstonermask:You've said it all, their spirit of contentment work in their favor. World, you'll chase it chase it and chase it,it's what belongs to you you'll still achieve, that's their mentality, and it's working well for them. Whenever we realise we have limited time on earth the little our problems would be. |

PEACE2023:You've made a good observation. This could actually be the reason why there are more Northeners in top government offices. I know a customs officer (well remunerated) from the South that resigned from his job and traveled abroad. Our best brains are not in Nigeria. I've long noticed that one |

PEACE2023:Oga, what is the salary of a director in the federal government? How many years does it take to climb to that position? Again how do you define greed? If leaving your country for greener pastures is your definition of greed then you need prayers. |

Previous posters have said it all..... Southern Nigeria have been celebrated globally for their intelligence and expertise but not in their own country.... Highly qualified individuals are refused jobs and even promotion... Many times that same government parastatal has issued several mass vacancies the outcome of which the Nigerian populace knows nothing about till today.... Even the operation of the parastatal is shrouded in confusion and murky outcomes... Those that japa have seen the handwriting on the wall and are adjusting appropriately. |

ednut1:This narrative of dumb north is a stale one, whoever keeps using that is using it at his or her own peril (figuratively). if you have lived with the elite or upper middle-class of the north, You will know they are always playing 3D chess Long game. Acting dumb, but very very calculative. The civil service and the military is a funnel to the end game which is power. The mentality is that of abundance from social capital.Hence, sojourning out of comfort zone beyond seeking education is quite uncommon. a. business man -> mingle with the elite, grow your business-> stay politically relevant in the shadows to guard your business interest. b. civil service or Military -> mingle with the elite through religious activities or business interest -> retire-> join public service. musicwriter:NO be JuJu be that? |

PEACE2023:The cost of living in the South is high and harsh, while life is generally good in the North, save for Kidnapping. I've worked for 8yrs in different states in the North and while there, the thought of japa beer crossed my mind. Enjoyment yapa for there. Just 2yrs of working in Lagos which is the longest I've ever worked in the South has seen me opening several internet pages, planning to japa. You no go just fit stay for South without the thought of japa filtering into your mind, when you see people returning from abroad for holidays with expensive goodies and you're left gawking. |

@OP Your concerns are well understood. Southerners end up being short-changed in terms of job opportunities truly. You can't help your people if you're not in the right position. However, at the top, federal character is emphasised but it may not work out perfectly when the leader is from the North. They can choose to apply seniority status to suit their people who stayed back while southerners chose to japa. I pray that more young Southerners will persevere to derive the benefits of rising to the top in public service. The main reason why they leave is the opportunities available for their children abroad. Nigeria will be great again. Amen |

Oga, Well they say Landlord travel and see!!!! There must be something that is making them to have such mind to move irrespective of their position in that establishment. You are thinking about your self all alone. they are thinking about their kids and future generations where things work without knowing someone to fix you up in an establishment. So when you get to directorship what happens?? Well na when your day break na eim be your morning. Dont bother about them 10yrs from now try check on them, then you will know why this relocation. All the best !!!! PEACE2023: |
