Sometimes u have a contingency plan and it almost fails .

I once had an online job interview which nearly went south due to NEPA wahala . I took the day-off from work that day and decided I will take the interview in my parlor .

I was very sure we would have light throughout the duration of the interview because we usually have light from around 6am till maybe 3pm. Notwithstanding, I still arranged fuel inside gen in case of any yawa.

I had already knotted my tie on my sparkling white shirt . I was seated in front of my laptop giving myself the die minute mental boost 10 minutes to the interview ; na so NEPA strike .

I quickly rushed down stairs to fire the generator , the moment I got back upstairs the gen just tripped off. I went back downstairs fired the gen again and within 2 minutes it was off. I wan craze .

I was literally speaking to my generator like an animate object “ iwo gen yi o de Jo now “ ( This gen abeg na ) 😁

Somehow the gen heard me and just started working properly . By the time I got back upstairs to settle down , the interview time had already gone by 15 minutes . I was lucky the interviewers had more than one candidate to attend to. So they had already started with another candidate while I waited in the lobby . Eventually I did well at the interview but everything could’ve gone south when agent NEPA struck .

if you are buying fuel for gen, at over 1k/litre, you are better off with lpg. there is an nnpc cng station close to one of our sites, i am going to likely check it out tomorrow. since the carburator is supposed to be dual cng/lpg

not gonna lie - before i changed my generators engine - this is where i was. the gen was dead and could not carry any load. you have online meeting you will switch everything off of it will trip the UPS carrying monitors. every 5 minutes work will be interrupted

my laptop sef is long over due for replacement. it currently has some weird hardware problem that makes it go to sleep without warning . it detects lid is closing when it is not. you will be in meeting and it will go to sleep . you will be working and it will go to sleep. i finally sort of sorted it out by disabling sleep when lid is closed

as for internet, swift just went down without warning. so we are now on mtn

imho these guys are just farming content

i have run lpg on and off since 2015

i am running my gen off lpg right now

for me it comes down to cost and convenience

it was not cost effective before this latest deregulation. [as naija matter lpg was 6k and is now 12k] however when there is queue, you can buy lpg faster [peoples blood dey hot hot hot so i no dey invoke priviledge as before. also too much cloak and dagger with jerry cans a month ago.


all i will say is it is best f you have a new generator

a generator costs like 300k to 500k - a solar installation is upwards of 5m.

so i take these stories of i replaced my petrol gen with solar with a handful of salt

Well, I checked the man who made the claim out and he does look like someone who has nothing to gain making up such stories .

He doesn’t look like the regular clout chasing twitter user sha .

Maybe because I’m an advocate of learning from other people’s mistake sha . I tend to give this kind of opinion full attention lest I become the one advising people not to make the same mistake I made

my key experience was that older already abused generators burn through a cylinder faster

the picture did not even make sense to me because it is the smaller generators that need to sit on a tire. the bigger ones are stable and already have dampers that stop them from shaking. then you have the cylinder right beside the generator with a long hose

unfortunately my default response is to disbelieve anything i see on nigerian twitter

A 3.3KVA (SRNE)/24V (Amaron Quanta) setup without panels would cost about 2M, it'd serve well even if it's 6 hours of grid you're getting across a 24 hour period and considering you can't do gen round the clock, it's still an okay deal.

I don't think the Twitter poster is chasing clout sha, he's one of the more objective handles on the space, plus he's experienced in these things...probably a case of one's persons experience differing from the other.

i bought a 1kva or maybe 1.5 kva gen. the type with no wheels. i put it on and it immediately started vibrating and moving - so i understood what the tire was for.

but these generators with wheels they stay n place. at most they vibrate if you start up a load. and then continue as before.

that is my own experience though.

possible. as a naija matter there are so many variables

my process for pouring petrol into the generator is pour into a small bucket with lip and then from there pour into the gen. because i do this, i always find out if there is water in the petrol. water is one thing that will make your gen start to act up and stop

its actually why in some ways i think lpg is better. most of the mess with petrol - water, dirt etc, you do not experience

Different strokes, I've been using my 12kva for business everyday for the past year. 50kg of gas at 65,000 per 6 days saves me much more money than 39,000 for 30L of Diesel per day and 36,000 for 30L of fuel per 2 days. Repairs have been as regular as the repairs I was carrying out while using Pms. Infact the money I'm saving now by using LPG allows me to carry out repairs without squeezing my face, or laying curses on the technicians. I don't know what I'm doing differently, I can't pinpoint any special precautions, the gen runs from 6pm to 10pm and then from 5am to 9am every day.

Could u please help confirm if ur gen was quite old when u did the conversion or not so old . This will help test GloriousG’s theory that perhaps it’s very old generators that may have issues with LPG conversion .
