The meter must have entered TAMPER mode and the users tried to clear it using a "quack". They must have been told not to allow the Meter's Unit to get to Zero (0) but they ignored. After the Zero mark, the meter starts reading backwards in the negative region. Solution: Abandon the Meter and apply for a new one. Its safer that way. |

Gentlesoul2021:I was told that I should replace it, Main while they will want to connect me manually because they don’t want to repair the meter for me. So that I will pay unmetered bill, I ran for my dear life, and continue to use my solar. NO DISPLAY is the error name the recorded on the report. My meter is still on the pole, I want to get a meter engineer to fix it. |

Gentlesoul2021:There are 2 possibilities here that can give meter the chance to get into this "negative" situation: Either the meter has factory issue that makes it to allow electricity to pass through even when it's out of unit or, the customer is tapping from the incomer wires(service mains) before the meter - that's external bypass. Since some of these meters have their relays on the neutral, whatever they think they have been taking is recorded in negative value for them. Did you see the meter on negative when you visited and they were still having light? Do the meters have all the factory and IBEDC seals intact? Sometimes, people go to these guys to help them "tamper" with these meters internally and it could lead to the negative accumulation. That's internal bypass. Like I explained above, external bypass could lead to this accumulation, too - depending on the meter type and the position of the relays. Solution: ask the shop owners to vend unit equaling the amount of negative value on the meter, the negative would clear out. They should avoid allowing it to go completely out of units before recharging. That can be a temporary solution. If you observe on the incoming wire without any "puncture" or opening to show they're taking supply by bypassing the meters, then Check the seals to see if their intact, if they're intact, then call the IBEDC team to come and inspect by writing letter to them and do keep a copy of the letter. If you allow them to come on their own routine inspection to find out about this, I can't describe how much you might end up paying. If it's factory issues, the MAP will be called to retrieve the meters and take them to lab for checks. If it's internal bypass, you're in trouble and if it's external bypass they're doing, tell them to stop as they'd be caught somedays - they should always recharge to clear the negative. Every negative indication points to the 3 possibilities elaborated above: internal or external infraction and, or factory issues inate to the meter. Act fast! |

Caseless:Thank you so much for this elaborate information. The meter seal are still intact. I have already alerted an electrician to help me check the wire connections if they are tampered with then I'll be going to ibedc office physically before the end of today. I have also wrote a mail with attached screenshot which has not been responded. |

frankputer:Lol unmetered bill is a big and huge scam I support u running. I had a single phased meter that also got damaged with no/invalid meter number recorded on the report. They ask me to go and buy another meter. I left their office and secretly switched to an abandoned meter with about 369k debt left on it before I purchased this new meter I came to report here for the shops... I know the cost of meter and the cos t of estimated bill they will give me prior to issuing a new meter wic can take upto 6 months and more, so paying off debt on the previous meter is a good idea for me... |

Gentlesoul2021:You're welcome. Go to any service center of IBEDC near you and present the letter physically, they acknowledge and you take a copy with you. That can protect you when issues come up. It's that letter they forward to NERC before they send the metering guys to come and check. Since the seals are intact, we have 2 possibilities now. What brand of meter is it? |

You can only tell if your meter has crossed over "in the negative units" from your UIU - display/control box. Check the UIU for a period (like three consecutive days). If the units do not reduce, then your meter is most probably bypassed, hence your tenants are free-riding (stealing energy) and that's why the units have not been exhausted since installation. If however the UIU is not showing negative values and your check shows that the units are reducing, then you have nothing to be worried about. Gentlesoul2021: |
