I prefer something that stands out a bit. Note, I'm a first-time car buyer as well as a first-time driver. I've driven before, but not frequently because the cars weren't mine. So, please help me choose between these nine:

Can 10-12million buy you a brand new car in Nigeria e.g. Innoson, Hyundai, Kia, etc.? If yes, I would advice you go with a new car and get the rest of mind you need. It keeps you away from the mechanic and I am sure there will be reasonable warranty on it such that the first 3 to 5 years would come at no extra cost to you except for petrol.

Choose between the Crosstour and Acura. The rest are difficult to maintain. Their mechanics also, are scarce. My friend is using Ford he bought as toks for 4.5 million. What he has spent already is almost 2million naira for a small fault it had .

Toyota are not just costly my brother. Toyota products give you value for your money plus, the availability of their mechanics and the parts. I would have suggested you go for Toyota, but, since is not part of your listing. Go for Crosstour or MDX . The rest are rubbish as long as you are using it in Nigeria. I'm talking from experience

Make sure you run VIN checks before you pay for any car. The mileage could have been rolled over or back. I don't know what they usually call it.
You can hire an expert to help you run all the checks via its VIN.

Thank you for your input. This post is part of my research na. Would you say the Acura MDX and Honda Crosstour are more expensive to maintain than the Lexus ES and RX models?

I will advise you go for any car with four plugs, anything after that is V6, which is very expensive to maintain

That acura is ugly...i prefer the stance of the benz,reliability is the same AFAIK....he won't go wrong with either.

I could have asked you to go for Buick as the only viable car for a first time user but parts and maintenance knowhow is naija might prevent you from enjoying the best out that car am talking from experience and I deal with auto auctions
here too

However, the enclave is a bit a larger SUV but there are other models you can chose from in that same product range.
Acura,Honda cross tour is a no no due to bad roads. Other cars in that line up is also a no no except Chevy but that also falls within Buick experience in Naija I have used and repaired most of those cars as an automotive technology student and end user. But the choice is yours

If you have an eye on fuel economy (which you must in this period), you can give the Ford Focus a consideration but it looks overpriced to me. You may not get anything close to that value if you plan to resell in the near future. There are sedans of the same price with same fuel economy that will give you a higher value in the future. The 2015 Hyundai Elantra and Sonata are equally good. Didn't want to mention Toyota since they are not on your list.

Both MDX and Crosstour are Honda vehicles. They are comfortable with good equipment and high ride height. The prices are good and they have good second hand value also. I have used both but fuel economy is like your regular SUV. Always needing more fuel. Mechanics are available.

The Buick Enclave is a sturdy vehicle. But you only see a few on the road. While I do not condemn it, you may struggle with competent technician for vehicles that are not too common on the road. The parts for these American vehicles are certainly available but I will thread with caution since countless more practical options are available.

The LR2 has reigned past though parts are also available. If you must use a Land Rover then be prepared to get competent technician for it and not your typical roadside mechanic. It's also not a vehicle for a first timer. You may be discouraged with expensive parts.

The G35 is a Japanese luxury for Nissan. Parts and mechanics are very much available. This vehicle was very popular about 10 to 12 years ago. It's a big engine no doubt, a bit fuel thirsty but not too much beyond the ordinary. I think the price is good too.

This model of Ford Edge is very common and the quoted price is very good. Do your maths well for an SUV based on the distance you commute being a first timer. Fiel price is not smiling. If you like it go first it because of the price.

I cannot comment on the Malibu and the Chrysler.

I won't go for any of them for sake of peace of mind. Go and get Lexus Rx for your peace of mind and efficiency as a first time user and with Naija current economic issues, mechanics shouldn't be your Friend
