Honda crosstour

hi bro, there are many models of Ford, but i cant remember the excat model as i type these message bcs that model has a very fragile electric component that need the best hand to operate on,if given to the wrong person can cause flames, just like the sophisticated mercedes benz with it electrical issues and turning to ashes. please ford edge is rugged and durable just like ford escape and fusion line. thanks

Go for the Acura bro. I never see Acura car wey bad before and I have seen alot. After Toyota Cars I think they are the next in line when it comes to cheap maintenance

Acura MDX for sure. The parts are readily available and it's very durable in Nigeria.

Experience taught me that some cars that are durable abroad aren't so in Nigeria. Example is both Hyundai Elantra and the Volkswagen golf 4 and above.

Hmmnnn, your choice of cars speaks volume e be like say you'll like trouble small. If you eventually purchase a 'non pure water' ride as a first time user you will eventually find out why most people avoid them. You'll find out that maintaining a ride goes beyond having the cash to buy parts and pay technicians for repairs. If you must choose from the vehicles above the MDX takes the crown for me.

For your sanity sake do not consider any of the following cars:

1. Ford Edge: Too much issues (electrical issues mostly)
2. Acura MDX: Same as ford just another useless vehicle.
3. Chrysler 200: Not so many user and parts will be limited and expensive. You will regret it on the long run.
4. Buick Enclave: Same as the Chrysler.


My choice would be either Honda Crosstour or Ford Focus.

These cars you posted here are not very durable nor reliable as Toyota and Lexus. You will spend a great deal in maintaining these cars you posted here

The common cars that are everywhere are the cars that have spare parts and are easy to repair when faulty.

As a first time buyer and driver, it's such car that you need before you will end up calling your Village people witch.

OP will not hear. Later he ll come back and start asking who can fix steering rack or where to buy dz or that.

My first choice is the Acura MDX
Second Choice is the Honda Cross Tour
The rest have one issue or the other and poor second hand/resale value.

The MDX & CrossTour are very reliable. For its time the MDX is quite luxurious but not so fuel efficient. The CrossTour is a Honda Accord on steroids, just as reliable. You cant go wrong with either.

My candid opinion, am not an expert, just an enthusiast.

well I fix cars for a living and I can tell you reliability is not the same on both vehicles

I prefer Acura MDx at least it's ok for Nigeria road and the maintenance is not too high

MDX- comfortable upholstery but crazy electrical issues, vulnerable HMI screen, too many buttons and it is a fuel guzzler 6/10

Ford edge- run for your life 4/10

Ford focus- a beautiful city car. 8/10

Crosstour- good second hand value. May have the regular Honda electrical abnormalities but it is a 7/10 car.

The rest, don’t take a second look at them.

You should check out the Honda Accord 2013-14 model or Mazda 6

It really depends what work he does and his mobility needs,whether daily long distance commutes or casual irregular drives.

The infiniti is well priced and he would still have enough to do CNG conversion.

CNG conversion for infiniti G series is not advisable ...

Go for the Acura MDX. I owned one for so many yrs untill I was tired of it, not cos it was giving me problems, I needed another vehicle. The parts are reasonably ok & very available.

Radautoworks could you tell me more about your work? Are you based in Lagos? I have already made a deposit on the MDX. I made a new post about it. This one people are responding to now was made like a week ago.

the MDX is by far the most reliable and cost effective on the list. They only come into our shop for routine maintenance. I can't remember the last time we had one come in with actual repair issues. Also, I own one so I know. Mine has 276k miles on it with the original engine and transmission. If you can get a 2014, even better.

The crosstour is okay too but parts will be expensive. Don't even think about from the Infiniti down unless you want to give people like me all your money

Whatever you buy, make sure to spend the money to get a complete inspection BEFORE purchase.

Can 10-12million buy you a brand new car in Nigeria e.g. Innoson, Hyundai, Kia, etc.? If yes, I would advice you go with a new car and get the rest of mind you need. It keeps you away from the mechanic and I am sure there will be reasonable warranty on it such that the first 3 to 5 years would come at no extra cost to you except for petrol.

If you have an eye on fuel economy (which you must in this period), you can give the Ford Focus a consideration but it looks overpriced to me. You may not get anything close to that value if you plan to resell in the near future. There are sedans of the same price with same fuel economy that will give you a higher value in the future. The 2015 Hyundai Elantra and Sonata are equally good. Didn't want to mention Toyota since they are not on your list.

Both MDX and Crosstour are Honda vehicles. They are comfortable with good equipment and high ride height. The prices are good and they have good second hand value also. I have used both but fuel economy is like your regular SUV. Always needing more fuel. Mechanics are available.

The Buick Enclave is a sturdy vehicle. But you only see a few on the road. While I do not condemn it, you may struggle with competent technician for vehicles that are not too common on the road. The parts for these American vehicles are certainly available but I will thread with caution since countless more practical options are available.

The LR2 has reigned past though parts are also available. If you must use a Land Rover then be prepared to get competent technician for it and not your typical roadside mechanic. It's also not a vehicle for a first timer. You may be discouraged with expensive parts.

The G35 is a Japanese luxury for Nissan. Parts and mechanics are very much available. This vehicle was very popular about 10 to 12 years ago. It's a big engine no doubt, a bit fuel thirsty but not too much beyond the ordinary. I think the price is good too.

This model of Ford Edge is very common and the quoted price is very good. Do your maths well for an SUV based on the distance you commute being a first timer. Fiel price is not smiling. If you like it go first it because of the price.

I cannot comment on the Malibu and the Chrysler.
