I reached out to an EducationUSA Specialist, registering the frustrating delays F1 and J1 VISA applicants to the Lagos embassy are facing at the preapproval phase. They let me understand that the "Consular Management is fully aware", that they are "even more frustrated", and "are doing everything humanly possible to rectify the issues". * I am applying for J1 VISA myself for a position starting in January and I have been stuck at that phase for 2 weeks counting. I am hoping I get to pick again sometime soon also so that I can choose Abuja instead. The feedback shared above is for the information of any concerned person. My advice right now to anyone who is just applying is to avoid Lagos and just apply to Abuja. Timgreat31: |

Sorry for the denial. I think it was just bad luck and cant think of anything particularly wrong with what you posted. Your answers all seem genuine. Try again, you may be lucky if you get more funding. Reach out to the school, let them know you will try again. I strongly believe you will be successful the next go around. You are young. Truthfully the interviewers consider everyone an immigrant until proven otherwise. They just want to be sure that the person has a good head on their shoulders, wont drop out of school or be a burden to the society which you dont come across as given your high scores. -maybe next time research the school, and a particular professor or aspect of the degree that is unique to the program and give that as a reason for choosing the school. Pray before the interview, see yourself smiling and having a pleasant conversation with the VO. Maintain a friendly demeanor even if they try to throw you off your game. Try again. You will get it. potken: |

[quote author=Abdgafarplenty post=132446162]For me it's almost a month in the Pre-approval stage. No response yet from them. I created a ticket and they responded saying they're still doing pre approval on my applications. Did you choose Abuja or Lagos. I heard Abuja doesn't take more than 3 days |

Thank you so much. I just got the scholarship back yesterday, so my deficit has been reduced to about $21,000 from $38,000. Hopefully, that makes my case stronger. I'll also do more research to give better answers to the questions. Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement, I pray the next interview goes much better. zichien: |

I am for renewal also (thinking I am qualified for that). Based on some information I saw on Nairaland sometime ago, it seems people were able to successfully drop-off documents with OIS without the interview waiver confirmation letter that we are supposed to get from the embassy after answering the questions accordingly subsequent to passing the preapproval phase. But I saw a mention that that was no longer obtainable (without the confirmation letter). Can anyone please confirm any of this? Timgreat31: |

Good evening everyone, firstly i will state that i am new here (thread), having read from page 1 and got tired along the way till jumping to page 60 to get latest i think i can just ask for help directly. Thanks to everyone contributing to the success. Firstly i finished my HND in computer engineering 2017 with 2.68/ 4 cgpa, and then applied to turkey for Msc but denied, then i got an admission in 2021/2022 for Msc in computer engineering in cyprus TRNC, i recently just graduated my Msc with 3.06/4 cgpa. My thesis is in computer vision and deep learning , not published yet. I would like to go for my phD in the USA, i am married now (this year) and would like to go with my wife. My question are 1. Can you help me with schools i can apply to , possibly i can get funding or tuition waivers 2. Please how can i go about applications before proceeding to visa stage 3. Is it possible to take my wife along 4. What are the chances of getting funded. I will be happy to get your reply so i can start my journey |

DFocus:OIS will turn you back without avits amentum IW qualification letter, which you will receive after scaling through avits questionnaire. OIS overided avit and accepted direct drop off of documents for like 2 weeks when avit has not really gotten it's appointment booking bearings. But that era has gone. |

How was your interview? BrighterSyde: |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by fairheart(m): 6:08pm On Oct 19, 2024 |
Evaluate your transcripts first, both HND and the one from Cyprus. Once you have the evaluated transcript, getting into a PHD program will be easier. You can take your wife with you, if you are fully funded; or you can go first and she can join later. You will make that decision by yourself. You may be refused for going with you, and you may be approved...depending on the VO you meets during the interview and where you are interviewed. But you can go together. To increase your chances of funding, I advise you to write the GRE test. It will increase your chances. But you may find schools that will not need it. All the best. Drhay: |

Ezepikin:I am not really an expert here but just talking based on past experience on filling DS-160…for US contact part it can be the school details and then the relative or family side can be the cousin details since i guess it’s an undergraduate study and not advance study. That’s just an opinion you can talk to other people that are more experience on this. I thought it was a masters study that’s why i said you should remove the cousin details part. |

Good evening house, please I have my interview coming up but I initially rescheduled my appointment because my passport wasn’t 6 months beyond the program end date, I applied for a new passport and have completed a new ds160 with the new passport number. Please which one should I give the Vo during interview, the old passport and ds160 or the new passport and new ds160. Also do I need to explain it to the officer once I’m there for the interview. Thank you! |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Gretmang(m): 5:17pm On Oct 20, 2024 |
VincentTobe:It’s the DS-160 that you give them at the embassy during interview that they’re gonna treat. There’s no way they’re going to treat a DS-160 that you don’t give to them that day. If u don’t tell them they’re not going to know. all the other DS-160 just stay somewhere in the system and u can access them anytime tol |
