Most used tires hardly pass 6-7months before going bad. Surprisingly its now above 30k for used old tyre.

My initial plan was to buy 2 brand new tires for my car, but the review I am getting online regarding these Chinese tyres aren't encouraging. I am considering buying a well graded Tokunbo tyres, was told some can last even more than these so called brand new Chinese tyres.Brands like Bridgestone Michelin, Kuhmo, Dunlop are way out of the reach of the common man. I was given 35k each for a good Tokunbo (205/65/R15) I have not decided yet but I have between now and month end to make that decision.Btw the way I was asked to come and pay 50k for a brand new tyre (either Joyroad or Arivo) my worry now is there are not brands I am familiar with considering the fact that they are Chinese tyres, but I wouldn't mind a review from those that have used them. I have between now and month end to decide whether to buy a brand new Chinese tyre or to settle for a very good Tokunbo tyres with the expiry date still intact and hasn't been tampered with.

Used tyres with good thread depth and rubber can last more than 4 years if used properly.

I dont think is bad roads, its like your supplier is giving you bad tyres or you dont know how to check tokunbo tires. I remembered in 2013 when i went to buy tires, i saw one shining tire with threads like it was brandnew. The person who took me to the mkt then said we should avoid the tire, i was adamant nah so we pick am, it was manufactured in 2004, when we flexed the tire, ol boy come see cracks by the side ,

When you see tire use in America or Europe. They are always worn out. Eurooeabmn don’t hust change their tire like that even if expired.

There must be a reason. Either it has expired, punctured. Have crack or hit my nail or sharp object. Worn out or they have covered number of miles.

The majority of the tired are already expired.

So when i pick the fine once with a valid date. Before 4 months they done cure threads. Because of porthole.

To get a tire that can last you just forget about the expiring date. The last one I bought 3-4 months ago already expired and didn’t focus on that but something that’s not Chinese. I bought it 20k then only to discover the tyre is now 28-30k now.

And the expired tyres are still going strong

My OGA, let me help you make your best decision,. Before that, be aware that there are many reasons for chicken owner decided to sell spent Layer bird that was producing money at useful stage of their life.
Based on my experience, used tyre can't give you value of money except you just want to use it for short period. Also there are many sub-standard tyre in market and our government or corruption failed us to root them out before reaching market.
Now for the best answer, buy tyre brand that is not much know to consumers, you get good value for your money. Finally don't buy ordinary rather select C category, though the price is more than ordinary and you rest assure that it last you 6 years for use within city and 4 years or for inter state journey for private use. I recommend 205, 70 R15C or 195, 70 R15C.
If you choose15C tyre, you will never regret buying new tyre again. For the price early this year, I bought 215, 70 R15C at 80K naira, so the current now is what am yet to know, and not bother because my next time for tyre purchase is 2019.

Most Chinese tyres regardless of name come from the same set of manufacturers.

The names are just marketing names chosen by the Nigerian importers.

Joyroad appears okay. Used it personally. What matters more is how you use the tyres.

1. Do not underinflate or overinflate them
2. Do not use them for tasks they aren't suited to
3. Do not overload them
4. Make sure they are balanced before use
5. Make sure you perform alignment regularly to prevent irregular wear
6. Make sure you rotate your tyres periodically usually every 5 to 10k miles or every year
7. Avoid driving into deep potholes while driving at speeds. Slow down or avoid the potholes where possible
8. When stuck, seek for towing assistance. Do not burn out your tyres trying to get the car unstuck.

Tyres don't really expire, they just wear out and also depends on condition they were subjected to during use and storage.

Please don't buy tires that were manufactured 10years ago, those times were during my naive days, I don't buy such anymore now as man don get plenty issues

1. Over inflation
2. Sudden impact with potholes
3. Tyres that have been left standing out in the elements at a spot for too long before being recovered and sold.
4. Age. Very old tyres that have developed dry rot or have become brittle will bend or bulge when inflated and subjected to loads.

There are fibres and metallic cords that run all around the circumference of the tyre. If Amy of the three issues I highlighted above impacts them negatively, your tyre will bend or go out of round


However, overinflation is usually the primary cause.

Seen it too many times. Overinflation will impact very old tyres more than newer tyres.

This is quite educative, thank you for these. I think i will need to buy my own gauge because these vulcanizers own is not always accurate. One will gauge your tyre 40psi and another gauge will show 45psi which is very confusing. Please you also mentioned alignment, how often do you think i should do alignment? Thanks.

This depends on how often you traverse bad roads.

I'd say once a year or anytime you work on your front suspension.
